Betweenness Centrality of New Eden

I have made a movie showing the Betweenness Centrality (BC) of New Eden systems that are connected by stargates:

YouTube video showing a BC animation of the galaxy

BC is a measure for how frequently a node of a network is a crossing point of shortest paths between other nodes. Higher BC for a star here hence means that if you travel between two stars in New Eden along the shortest path, then you are more likely to jump through this system.

In the video you see more and more stars of lower security status being added, every time the galaxy turns once. BC is re-calculated after every addition.

Is there any practical use for this information? Well, perhaps this could aid somebody's decision where to place a citadel... But I think it sure is nice to look at.

I've also opened a reddit thread for this, here. If you want to know how I got the data for this, you can follow the steps I have outlined here.
