Hey there,

I was just wondering what the plans for the InGame Browser (IGB) were for the future. Removal, upgrade, something else?

Also, I'd like people's opinions on the IGB and whether or not it should stay or go.

Any programmers here who'd like to comment?

Their current plan is to remove it.

However I feel that this will be a mistake (much in the same way as Jukebox was and Evelopaedia). Removing support for game features resonates the outward image that the game is in decline and moving toward being wrapped up. If anything, the company should cherish these features and update them regularly - they could even contract work such as Evelopaedia to knowledgable community members who would probably do a better job than staff due to their first hand experience, but I digress.

Deploying a completely new server cluster to a new data centre, which they did a week ago, gives exactly the opposite image.

With regards to the IGB, they have previously said that the one that is currently integrated (based on Awesomium) required a LOT of modification to work in Eve and would require even more to update and maintain. It has been stated that they will be removing it eventually when CREST is up to par. It will not be going anywhere soon.

On the Evelopedia point, there was an ISD team that had responsibility for helping to keep it updated (the Yulai Archives & Record Repository Team) but this obviously didn't happen. The wiki was also editable by players, but they generally didn't do it either. So it is all well and good saying that volunteers could do it, it is just whether they will do it.

Alt 0153™

Here I used to have a sig of our old Camper in space. Now it is disregarded as being the wrong format. Looking out the window I see one thing: Nothing wrong with the format of our Camper! Silly CCP......
