Player Features and Ideas Discussion

Everybody knows who they are. They're name is everywhere in high sec, and are probably the last ships you want to be locked on by. No, not CODE. Although an attack from them is just as devastating. This thread is about CONCORD.

I found yesterday that flying around, there presence is everywhere, yet its very bland. These powerful security vessels protect capsuleers from criminal attacks and also enforce laws in systems. Yet there is no real interaction with them. Some would argue that there silenced sole role is a good thing. I want to argue that point.

It's not many games you can enlist into security forces in games. Largely because they tend to be npc. Well, what if we changed the way we look at these npc-controlled factions, and allow player interaction and implementation.

As it stands they're is no fulfilment to being a capsuleer with good standing. No one really looks at you differently, you just get access to more content. If you are a criminal with bad standing however you get all the attention from factions. Law enforcement will chase you through the systems in a almost cat vs. mouse like fashion. Well what if we allowed capsuleers to become a part of the security force that protects all of high sec. And attempts to catch criminals. I suppose if this was a case, this could apply to the racial forces such as the Caldari Navy for example.

I was thinking about this idea and trying to figure out how it would work with the in-game mechanics. Perhaps once you get max standing with CONCORD or Caldari Navy for example it would allow you to apply to join to that faction. Then maybe it would follow a process similar to the volunteering program. Where your account then gets certain restrictions and privileges for your time within the security faction. One of the features would obviously have to be restricting all attempts to fire at non-criminal capsuleers.

I imagine being a member of a security force like CONCORD would give the player a module locked ship. By this I mean the ship given to the player upon joining would come with pre-fit modules that could not be changed. And give the players certain abilities to chase down criminals and apprehend them. I can also see that the player could have there warp drive overridden to respond to criminals attacking players. The player member of CONCORD would be given patrols from agents, and other various missions or duties.

Obviously there are a lot of implications of this idea. But I think it would give the game a whole different aspect of playing and maybe make new players join, some people like to mission run, others like to PvP. But I bet some capsuleers just want to protect and serve the citizens of New Eden. Either way this is just an idea and I would like to hear from all of you, and listen to your perspective and opinions on this idea.

I'm sure some players probably would want to do that. But if that was the case I think you would be bored very quickly of having that much power and not actually benefiting from it. Either way it wouldn't have any effect on the offending player as CONCORD destroys the ship in a matter of seconds anyway. I'm not just on about simply shooting capsuleers with criminal flags. Anyone can just go fit a ship and do that as you rightly said.

I'm on about interacting with npc factions in a different way to most MMO's do. Some people are happy just being in a npc corp just because they feel like a part of the game. This idea would expand upon that. Bringing the interaction between players and npc factions. I think its a feature that most games don't give the chance to try out. Maybe its for good reason. I'm not sure. As I said this is just an idea.

I see what you mean, maybe you're right and mechanics should have minimum player interaction. I do agree, EVE is a great game where you can do anything and everything. But sometimes it just lacks the depth in certain things. Maybe its just me as I do like some sense of immersion and almost roleplay in games. You are right in the sense that most of the experiences and interactions you get in this game are the players themselves.



Well personally, my preference is interacting with players, and making your own mark in the game, rather than expanding the reputation of something else As I said I was just wondering about the idea.

You can sign up for faction warfare in any NPC of your choosing, it is what you are looking for.

And you got the wrong idea, CONCORD does not protect anyone, they just "remove the purp" from the premisses after they misbehaved.

Anyone ever notice that Bumble's mustachio is a pretty classic highway patrolman mustachio?

We already have police pursuit comets. Add a widebrimmed hat and Officer Bumble would be complete.

This idea come regularly, and it's still a valid one.

As CCP is trying to put everything in hands of players, why not starting implementing the idea as well inside Concord.

This could lead later to maybe other idea like being some kind of marshall pursuing the outlaw...

Maybe me using CONCORD was the wrong example. As people have said it is more of a mechanic rather than a feature for immersion sake. Which now, I do agree. Looking back at my original post, I have been thinking for the last few days that it wasn't the best starting point. Overall my point is relevant to what you said. Integrating player powers into NPC Corps. Even if they are little. Skimming through a conversation with a agent for the objective just disconnects you from what you are exactly doing, even at some point you take a look of the mission name, ignore the rest and accept. I think it would be interesting that instead of talking to a agent you get connected to another player ( who has the rank of agent within a npc corp ) who gives out missions. He could give you a brief similar to what the agent gives but provide more details, talk with the player. Might be far fetched but I'm sure I'm not the only one who wouldn't mind the addition of this.



I said an attack from CODE. is just as devastating, not that they share the same power as CONCORD. Either party can destroy any ship you have. CODE. may require more planning but an attack from them is just as destructive as CONCORD in the sense that your ship is now a wreck.
