So I am posing this question to the Devs and community

I have been questing around, but could only find speculations.
And it seems most just refer to spirituality, have any of you seen anything about named gods/goddesses?.

Like the greeks had, zeus and all that. I find spirits to be kinda vague, and it made me wonder if anything like the greek pantheon of gods made it thru the eve gate.

I have heard of some deities being bantered around Matari lore. Its ok to reference any deity from earth since the Gallente are historically pagan and name their ships after that. Matari had their history and culture erased by the Amarr, but they are friendly with the Gallente so you could pick any ship name God to worship, to be on the safe side, or one from Earth if you didn't want to be cautious with your RP.

Also there are Eve-only gods that got started by the players, like Bob the Wormhole folk deity and The Mittani.

I believe the Matari worship a god called "Rust".

I hear them mention his name a lot, some phrases include "Trust in the Rust".

Minmatar ships have plenty of references to Norse mythology, such as Loki, Hel or Gjallarhorn. I haven't seen anything that explicitly states it has anything to do with an actual religion, but it's clear that the Matari culture went, at least party, back to the Norse to find an origin.
If you want to have specific gods, the Norse mythology is a better place to look than Greek mythology. Smile

Other than that, I personally think that there are two Matari gods. Pix mentions Rust, and I'll offer up Artillery as the second, especially in the 1400mm or Quad 3500mm versions.

Well, there is always Bob. He doesn't care where you came from, just that your path crosses his turf.

Even CCP have acknowledged him:

"Bob has spoken: the spawn rate and lifetime of some wormhole connections to Nullsec space have changed." - Patch notes for Aegis.

"You quickly learned the secrets of wormhole spawning and static connections, developed techniques for long-term starbase living that nobody had ever seen before, and created your own set of social norms, vocabulary, and even a shared religion." - Dev Blog, "Into the known unknowns"

Look around, most, if not all but a scant few, ships in Eve are named after some Norse or Greek God or Goddess, animal, or mythical creature of Earth legend. So, in fact it would be harder to find a ship in Eve that wasn't given a name from such origins. Eve is technically in the same universe as ours, just a couple dozen millennium in the future, so those names are not out of place by any means nor a breach of lore for them to exist in Eve's cultures.

Vargur still escapes me, though. Can't find a damn thing on that one.

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."

It's just Icelandic (thus also with Old Norse roots) for 'wolf' or 'destroyer.'

On the Minmatar side, there's Sleipnir, Svipul, Loki, Huginn, Muninn, Fenrir, Nidhoggur, Hel and in a sense Vargur* as well, which can at least be classified as mythical, if not divine creatures. Then there's the Bifröst, which is the bridge connecting the realms of men to the realms of gods, the Naglfar, which is a mythical ship, heralding the coming of Ragnarok, which is the twilight of the gods. So, even though the Minmatar may not have a common religion at this point, their mythology has not completely been lost over the millennia.

On top of that - Wolf, Jaguar, Panther and Mastodon are creatures that very likely don't exist in New Eden, and probably never have. After several thousand years and a long "dark age", I would think they might count as myths as well.

*) ArmyOfMe is correct. Vargur or "Vargr" or "Wargaz" literally means Wolf (or predator, strangler, or evildoer, or someone aggressive ... language is complicated). Yet, I listed them along the mythical creatures, since Wolves (among others) played a very big role in norse mythology (Fenrir and his offspring are "Vargar")

IIRC, Vargur is icelandic for Wolf.

Here's a list of EVE ships and items that reference Earth things. As people said, lots of Greek and Norse mythology entities, and also some Celtic, Sumerian and Japanese. Also lots of mammals, birds and reptiles, and some insects among the drones' names. But no fish or amphibians, I don't think.

Kind of an old list, it's missing potatoes. We didn't know about those until the counterfeit Gallente model ship kit item at Christmas.

While tribal life generally makes independent thought impossible, we're looking down at billions of people scattered across hundreds of worlds. So somewhere, on the oceans of a temperate planet in lowsec, or in a green canyon on a barren world there has to be a few million people who've stumbled across some version of Zen.
Then had it modified by tribal elders so that it doesn't interfere with the ability to perform violent acts, since millennia haven't moved us ethically much further than bacteria in our outlook. Religion, the socially cohesive expression of spirituality, a socially corrosive experience, is little more than light entertainment and decoration to people who need to destroy their own kind.

PS With the huge scale of populations out there, i've always wondered how people either generalise or hesitate to make up niche details with their RP.

Goggles. Making me look good. Making you look good.
