CCP You are Missing A Trick with Ship Skins

If they had any sense they would sit down and create 100 various colour schemes that can be applied to any ship. Make the skins cheap to buy - say a £1 per ship type skin.

Alliances and Corps could then pick a colour scheme as their 'kit' and players would buy the cheap skins with real money to look cool in their colours. For example Goonswarm could pick a yellow/black design as their colours and I'm sure a lot of line members would pay a nominal amount of real money to get the right coloured ships so their fleets look like a cool bee swarm!

Same with my alliance Mordus Angels, I'm sure a lot of our guys would pay a small amount of real life money to fly a decent silver/red combo. I would definitely spend £10 to fit 10 different ship hulls out in my alliance colours.

Also, if these skin buying people change corps and alliances they would almost certainly spent more money on kitting out their ships in the new Corp/alliance colours.

So CCP, give us cheap skins so alliance bro's are willing to spend a nominal amount of RL money to look cool in a specific 'kit'! Could be a nice little earner for them.

What's different from buying ship skins now?

You would call it a "livery". Trains got 'em. Race horses got 'em. Why, even NYC cabs have 'em.
One of my favorites is The Burlington Northern Railway.

As long as the tale of the hunt is told by the hunter, and not the lion, it will favor the hunter.

CCP is missing a trick when it comes to skins.

Back when the bug existed that let you put any skin on any ship, I joined an incursion fleet and saw a GOLD MACHARIEL right next to mine. It was beautiful. CCP soon fixed the "bug".

I don't give a flip about cosmetic things usually, but I could come out of pocket RIGHT NOW to be able to do that to my Machs. It's like CCP doesn't want any more money ...

Same mate, I had no interest in ship skins till I saw some of the examples created by 'the bug'. I just think a fleet of ships all in the same 'livery' as mentioned above would look super cool.

And what real difference is their from using rl money to buy Aurum to purchase ship skins? It would just cut out the Aurum bit.

Hell keep it as it is then and use aurum to buy them but make them a lot cheaper and the same colours applicable to any ship type and I'm sure they would sell like hot cakes as alliance colours or livery.

Aurum can be gotten from plex is the difference so a person can farm/play for alliance skill licenses.

To quote Lfod Shi

The ratting itself is PvE. Getting away with it is PvP.

None.

What I meant was that there is nothing micro about the 20+ dollars we currently have to pay to turn a single grey ship hull into a ship with a slightly different grey color.

This idea is quite a bit older than EVE's current ship skin implementation and has been posted at least 300 times, FYI.

Also, who the heck are Mordus Angels?

CCP have always been deeply obsessed with its image as a company and the image of EVE as a product and whenever the subject of customization has been brought up CCP has always been quick to announce that they don't want players to be able to do silly things with customization features because that would not be in-keeping with the grimdark theme of the EVE universe. Such is the case with alliance logos and they've also said it in regard to ship skin customization before.

You want to pay CCP $30 to get your ship to look how you want it? Tough ****, CCP don't want your money if that means your ship is bright purple with gold trim or pink with luminous green polka dots.

When skins came out it instantly became apparent how much people actually want the ability to make their ships look however they want CCP absolutely could have, and should have, started work on a feature that allows you to design your own skin then slapped a whopping great price tag on it.

But their obsession with image won't allow that, because they cannot, under any circumstance allow you to fly though space in a gold spaceship because in the collective mind of CCP that would violate the sacred gimdark theme and they'd rather not have your money and deny you the satisfaction of flying a ship with the skin you want than do that.

It also doesn't help that most of the skins CCP comes out with look like absolute ass.

You did see that one clip they showed either last year or the year before at FanFest with the "Custom SKIN" prototype, right?

We're eventually going to be able to create our own color schemes and apply logos to our ships.
