How EVE was supposed to lose some nerdyness (old meta items argument)

I understand how the revamps work on meta items. But people argued when they renamed them to "ample" and such we would lose things like "compressed coil gun", "prototype gauss gun". But why does this matter? You think about how the things work.

I found out the "prototype gauss gun" is just one method of making a railgun compared to others (I just don't understand which yet.) and here is a wiki

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coilgun

It explains differences like ones that pull a magnetic projectile, or ones that somehow throw aluminum or copper which isn't magentic.

I mean look at this crazy ****. The coilgun wiki mentions using them as a protective barrier to prolong the life of "mass driver cannons", and they have use in particle accelerators as a barrier so they don't break the machine in a breach of the vacuum.

I don't think it's a huge loss myself but CCP addressed this with old prop mod names and such.

Oh, I perfectly understand, Hal Morsh — a mission like this requires courage, skill, and heroism… qualities you are clearly lacking. Have you forgotten you're one of the bloody immortals!?

It can be avoided, though, and should be wherever possible.

There was talk about 18 months of simplifying the names. However it went so far as to lose the flavour of the items. Players protested, CCP listened. I think we have found a nice midpoint between favour and descriptiveness.

Lose nerdyness and gain more clownliness?
Nerds serve a vital functions in society, my dear sir. They design and make all those complicated devices that you enjoy now ... like your computer.
They can also do maths .... properly.

Don't worry, OP. Some people think ego serves as intelligence. The renaming convention doesn't make sense. It's changing things just to be changing them. And, yeah, they've come a long way with the rail gun since EVE was devised.

Now...let's see...was it a generator or a dynamo?

There just isn't anything that can be said!

They changed things because clowns cried out in tears over having to wrestle with a non-issue. Some changes were good, others bad. A lot turned into a nonsensical mumbo-jumbo with uncommon adjective getting tagged along, resulting in comical end result. Next clown cycle should be around 2020-ish. Expect more clowns.

I'm all for sorting out all the T1 meta stuff, but most of the new names are just stupid diabloesque word constructs.

I don't really care one way or the other for the modules (except I'll have much sad if the joke in TPs ever goes away). The one thing I miss the most is all the flavor text for the regions has disappeared.

Simplifying names is just part of a general trend in gaming towards dumbing down in order to churn through more new and casual players.
