So this is one of a couple of images we've been working on with the awesome artist Will Burns, who's worked with us previously on many projects.

We're currently exploring different ideas to show off EVE's ships and give more intricate detail about them, such as putting together books based on images like this. Do you guys like it, and would you like to see more?

**** yeah I want to see more!

You think you guys could build these into 3D models we could look at via ISIS?

Doesn't really give me any useful information. In-game it's an icon that I need to blow up. I couldn't care less about what's inside.

Is there any chance you could make them a bit more like a Haynes manual? The starter on my Rifter keeps sticking and i dont know where to hit with the tyre iron to free it off.

Also some wiring diagrams would be nice as the police lights on my comet have stopped working meaning i have to shout "WOOP WOOP" in local instead.

I would pay money for this. ALL TEH SHIPS!

EDIT: Upon closer inspection, this Comet is missing a drone bay. I see the drone control mainframe silo, but no drone bay. I'm assuming, though, that this is a WiP and/or a proof of concept.

Great idea and it looks good but it doesn't have a drone bay. Also, I was always under the impression that ships fitted for capsuleers just have a lot of empty space, where the crew areas usually are but there is no space for any crew area on this cutaway, unless you put it where the drone control stuff goes and just say that non capsuleer Comets have no drones.

So very big ships with no crew in it? That seems dumb... Roll

Someone once told me the ships in eve have crewmembers, also, what of the clear skies videos?

They have. Frigates that are modified to accomodate capsuleers are automated, have only few crew members. Gallente frigates are very automated so I dont see a need to have more than 1 crewmember. He can be hiding beside the capsule, in the front of it, hiding under the armor plate seen.
Automation means replacing much of crew members with information processing systems and internal drones, as you can see in the picture. I suspect a full descriptions of the vessels would be needed to avoid confusion.

And the Clear Skies heroes did not use capsule to affect the ship. It was a crew, and their ship was crewed conventionally. But nothing like with full crew.

And this improves gameplay how...??

It helps to contribute to a sense of immersion. I look at art, flavour text, details and the next time I pilot that ship, I find myself imagining all those components working as I fly through space. In short, it encourages use of imagination and makes people *feel* they're flying a spaceship, rather than a 3D sprite that generates a collection of numbers.

You forgot the crew space.

This is a capsuleer version of a Gallente frigate, which do not need much crew anyway because of the extensive use of drones. It makes perfect sense for a capsuleer frigate, which is not much bigger than a modern-day airliner, to have no crew besides the pilot.

So, in a modern Airliner you are telling me the Flight Attendants, Co-Pilot and Navigator are not necessary. That everything beyond the locked door should operate just fine with vending machines and good old common sense?

Personally, I'd like to see all ships with cargo capacity have a crew capacity as well. And when they do you should be allowed to pick up players that want shuttle from one area to another. However, that brings in the gnarly mechanic of what to do when you log off as the pilot and bunch of other issues.

Bah humbug, when is Christmas so I can be properly grumpy!

Ships in Eve definitely have crew, even the capsule-fit ones. Now - that doesn't mean you have a co-pilot and flight attendands. The latter you'd need mainly for passengers, which you don't usually have, and the former would only be needed if you weren't a demigod directly wired to the ships core controls.

I can live with that picture there. Have a look into a WW2 submarine - there's not a lot of space for crew either. Most of the ship by far is engines, batteries, pressure tanks, torpedoes... - people don't need a lot of space. If they can crawl (or drift, due to the lack of gravity) around to reach what they need to reach in order to do their work, that's enough space for crew. Also keep in mind, that "crew" refers to common mortals. Barely more than cattle to a capsuleer. (yeah, that might give a "good aligned" white knight roleplayer something to think about).

Anyway - I have to agree with the few who don't care much for this. It's a nice piece of art and such, but as long as it doesn't contribute anything to the game, I'd rather see the time required to create it spent otherwise. If you want to create lore and art, I'm all for that, but put it in the game for crying out loud!

I really do like these; the artwork's great (especially the technical 'cut-outs') and the information on the ships is well worth a read.

I'd love to see more of these - provided in-game development remains CCP's top priority!
