Hello, all. I'm fairly new to Eve, and I've decided to make mining my profession. I'm trying to throw together a spreadsheet detailing ore prices per unit compared to system security rating, but I'm having trouble figuring out how dangerous low-security systems actually are. Does anyone know where to find information regarding the number of hulls lost in certain security levels, or similar stuff?

I suggest Dotlan: http://evemaps.dotlan.net/

You can sort by jumps, ships killed, pods killed, etc. You're probably best to avoid FW space as that is where a lot of solo, small gang, and pirates hang out.

You can also use the in game map and filter your neighbourhood to see kills in the last hour or 24 hours. It can be done by capsule kills as well as ships.

They are dangerous. The most dangerous space in game IMHO. Low sec is totally not worth mining.

If you want the more valuable ores null sec is far better than low sec. Far safer with better ores.

Also new players tend to focus on ore value and with how close in price all the ores are that should probably be your last concern. How large the asteroids are has a larger effect on isk making as do boosts. The difference between mining large veld rock in null sec with full Rorqual boosts compared to mining any other ore alone, in unsecured space, on small asteroids where you loose a lot of potential yield switching rocks is night and day.

So put aside the spreadsheet and figure out how to get mining in null. Or switch to something that pays better like combat.

Don't get too set on mining, you may eventually get bored after a few hours ... days ... weeks ... months ...

If you decide to stick with it, your long term aim should probably be to mine in null-sec. Definitely safer than lo-sec, and in the right situation I would say it's safer than hi-sec. That means either joining a null-sec alliance, or getting involved with neutral mining fleets in NRDS null-sec like Providence. Once you get with a good group that is boosting 24/7 you can make a reasonable amount of ISK.

I'd suggest you look at joining KarmaFleet or Pandemic Hoard or one of the other newbro friendly corporations under the umbrella of one of the Bloc powers.

You'll be shooting far more valuable rocks in 0.0 space with the benefit of Intel channels and plenty of friends to come and help you along with reasonably regular ADM Mining Ops which will allow you to mine faster with the benefit of full Rorqual boosts.

I also recommend you spend some time on combat skills as mining gets very tedious rather quickly.

.5-.7 have basically equivalent asteroids. Gankers prefer .5 as it gives them more time to attack before Concord destroys them. You do not want to mine in low-sec until you have a good bit of experience.

A couple of good things with mining is that you can do it on your own & it will allow you to read/study the amazing amount of information that is Eve.

The navigation and tanking skills will apply to all ships when you branch into other activities. Just don't train to exhumers and you won't spend a lot of time on training skills you might someday wish you had spent on something else. A Procurer is recommended as your first t1 mining barge as it is very hard to take down.

Add "Code." to your bad contacts list so you know if they decide to pay your system a visit.

Welcome to Eve.
