What was the purpose of this change?

Is it too much to expect the focus to be on areas that actually need some time spent on them? This system worked fine before.

If you are reading this and want to know how to revert, toggle off the two "Experimental Features" checkboxes in the "General Settings" tab and restart your client. That worked for me.

I got a new WH in the home system and can't scan it because it defaults to multiple items in the sky when I specifically said only this one. There are at least three, maybe more, sigs showing,OMG how about releasing when tested instead of when scheduled.
Nothing should ever be released until the easily found (hint hint) "HOW TO..." file is completed that says in simple language how to perform the new magic trick. Something us knuckle draggers can understand., "Do this, then do this, then do this...."
The fact one person can intuitively understand how to do **** does not mean 100,000 other people can pick it up.

Did you change session? ( use gate, dock etc?) after unticking the 'use old map / scan' settings?

You need to do this for the old stuff to be used afaik. I unchecked the changes, then docked and undocked and old map and scanner are back...

I feel for noobs who want to do some exploration because they'll give up trying to use these features and won't know how to turn them off

no need to restart client, just close and restart scanner box.

chill out guys, it's not hard.

Just play around with your shift and control keys. hold one then scroll your mouse wheel in and out. Hold the other and scroll your mouse wheel in and out.

No one can see you play. It's OK to not understand something for the first 30 seconds.

Experiment. Learn.

Also, put on your big boy pants and use this opportunity to transition to the "beta" map. It's far superior in EVERY way. Not adjusting is only a testament to your personal stupidity.

Wow, really folks?

After reading this thread I logged in to see what cataclysmic changes had rendered scanning so difficult for veterans and newbros to come. I undocked a buzzard, warped to some celestial and set my probes a-scanning. I located a wormhole in three scans, checked some filters and noticed I had also gotten a warpable location for several ships. Was it faster than before the changes? I don't know, but it sure wasn't slower or more difficult in any way for me.

Am I some magical scanning savant with locational talents far beyond the typical? I seriously doubt it.

How are people having such difficulty with this?

I feel for those who have lost the ability to adapt to new situations and changes to familiar tools.

It's gotta be a trap.

CCP developer forum alts posting 'THE SKY IS FALLING' threads to see if they can entice others who actually think that way into expressing that sentiment.

There's no way people are actually struggling with this change.

I bet you get real excited when you see something shiny and new. That something is all flash Gee Whiz doesnt make it good. Hopefully next time CCP tries to make a map, they will actually get somebody who knows what a map is used for, instead of relying upon useless sparkles and polish to make it look good. Finally, the best feature of the new map IMO is the check off box that allows you to turn it off.

I don't play, I just fourm warrior.

Unfortunately I am struggling. The main reason being that when I open te new beta scan window, all I see is the celestials and nothing else. No amount of button/shortcut/mousclicking/mousescrolling changes that.
I presume it is one of the many bugs this new feature is hampered by. As such I have filed a bug report.

Besides that, although ranting like the OP is a bit over the top for my taste, I can understand some confusion with players. When CCP launches a functionality in Beta, it should be opt-in instead of opt-out, as it is now.

Here I used to have a sig of our old Camper in space. Now it is disregarded as being the wrong format. Looking out the window I see one thing: Nothing wrong with the format of our Camper! Silly CCP......

at the top left are a few little icons you can click on to see a drop down menu of things you do and don't want to show up.

Then on the probe scanner window itself there's a menu to the right of Scan Results that says Filtered. You can click on that one and have the ability to select more stuff you do and don't want to show up.

It's different but it's still pretty good.

I am aware of that :)

Selecting all/none/several doesn't change one iota. Hence the submitted bug report.

Yea on the probe scanner window click on the Filtered button and make sure there's an X in the boxes next to Anomalies and Cosmic Signatures.

Despite the predictable HTFU posts the scanning/probe UI changes are indeed a retrograde step. However your feedback will be more useful if posted in this thread instead: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=453682&find=unread

read this thread and wanted to see what the complaints are about.

I am not scanning much and not very good with learning new stuff, but took my old dusty helios out for a spin and was able to scan down a procurer in 4 scans. I am really not being condenscending now, but tbh. I don't see how it is a lot different from before... pull out probes, move the probes with the arrows, scan, move probes decrease radius.. repeat, untill ship scanned down. recall probes, warp. Sure the buttons are placed differently, but after having pushed everything(including filters etc.) you kinda know what is what.

I also like the D-scan option. It gives me a much better better spacial feeling of the system I am in. I was always bad with using D scan for anything else as seing when someone landed on the gate to the plex I am in, and I really think this will help me scan down the celestial people are at faster.

I think it works better and less clunky than scanning with the old beta map, which i disliked so generally I am happy about the changes

With just over 2 weeks in game and predominantly into scanning and exploration im not to hot on this new change... ok it didn't take long to work out at all but I think its defo a step back..... Im just thinking "WHY" TBH... it gives no real benefits over the old system from what I can see and just more bland and cumbersome....

the only thing I do like is they moved a few buttons that were stupidly placed (destroy probes/recover probes) and a few plane location bugs/issues but I just don't see the thinking behind this to be perfectly honest and I think its going to be more of an issue with new players in the long run....

my biggest gripe is that it just doesn't feel fun anymore What?..... I dunno... just feels boring.. and for someone who spends most game time scanning that's a biggie!.... I admit ive only spent 30 mins with the new system so I will keep a open mind... but right now im not very hot on it.....

yes we can disable the new system but I agree with Esrevid Nekkeg, this should be opt-in not opt-out....

I understand I was not around when the new map went live but its not hard to see the huge benefits of the new map over the old one, but this just seems silly and a step backwards....

my thoughts probably mean zip to you pros but hey I like to share P...... except ISK Big smile

Has anybody noticed that d-scan is now shown in probe map? Direction and distance is visible. In other words, ccp just removed the need to have any skill pinpointing ship location with d-scan to get a hit with combats on first try.

One thing I would like to have though, is to have my ship modules visible when map is in full screen.
