I would buy this.

But the big question for me is... would it explain what all the Raven's pointy blinky bits do? Why are they exist?

EVE books are seen mainly by die-hard fans; consider a co-production of computer game spaceship art, with other game publishers, in order to get wider distribution and more exposure.

Not to be negative but there's a typo in the bow turret section...

"A fill 270 degree arc of fire" surely it's meant to be "full".

This post brought to you by CCP's alpha forum alt initiative. Playing the eve forums has never come cheaper.

So this is one of a couple of images we've been working on with the awesome artist Will Burns, who's worked with us previously on many projects.

We're currently exploring different ideas to show off EVE's ships and give more intricate detail about them, such as putting together books based on images like this. Do you guys like it, and would you like to see more?

Discuss!

This artwork is lovely stuff that will help enrich the game.

But please, no crew. Certainly not in anything smaller than a capital ship, and even then crew should only have a minimal presence. The notion of 'ship crew' in Eve has always been a debatable 'feature' that has no in game manifestation (otherwise you would see them in the market). Eve ships are fully automated vessels that tap into a capsuleer's subconscious functions via capsule technology. That's what those holes in the back of a capsuleer's neck are for (as well as skill training). This enables a capsuleer's ship to run an maintain itself (with the help of full automation). This direct link between the capsuleer's trained mind and the ship enables a minimal latency between pilot command and ship response, despite capsuleer ships being so large. This, combined with the lack of a need for any cumbersome life support systems (for crew), defines the superiority of capsuleer vessels over any other and is the primary reason for the rise of the capsuleer.

The ship communicates all this into the capsuleer's brain in the form of spreadsheets. Who'd have thought?

a capsuleer significantly reduces the number of crew required and increases performance for a spaceship, but ships larger than a frigate do require mundane crew in addition to the capsuleer

i'd like to see the internal difference between capsuleer and normal spaceships

e: there's a chronicle somewhere where a person's being hired to join a capsuleer's battleship crew, but i can't find it :(

I'm just saying crew is wrong. I can't take the guilt when I get my workforce blown up just for lulz.

I know there's the Eve lore stuff but I just don't think it's any good. I took my ideas from two Star Trek episodes. The first is 'The Ultimate Computer' , where the Enterprise goes fully automated except for the bridge:

The Ultimate Computer

and the second is 'Spock's Brain' where Spock's Brain is stolen and used as a central processor for an advanced underground facility:

Spock's Brain

Having a massive fully automated ship with one brain as a central processor sounds cool to me. A bunch of guys in red outfits cluttering the corridors of my shiny ship before they die is less cool.

They are internal rail mounted drones (autonomous). Not external, controllable drones. It is explaining how repair modules work.

I would like the ability to toggle off selected elements of the UI so I can actually see the beauty of EvEs ships.

EvE looks amazing but its hidden behind a bloated UI. You have the beta program.. why not give us a minimal UI option ?

It occurred to me while I was looking at the EvE website.. You have 0 screenshots of the game, in fact the only gameplay shots you have is the ''This is EvE'' video which is shown with the UI off.

You want new player retention... fix the UI.

Then new players can actually see the beauty of EVE and not spreadsheets and red xs. And they might not leave after 1 week.

Eve should be playable with just the overview and a nice picture in picture showing what you are firing at. Everything else should be toggle on/off.
Ctrl/F9 toggles the entire UI on or off in-game. Eve is beautiful without the UI..Cool

Here I used to have a sig of our old Camper in space. Now it is disregarded as being the wrong format. Looking out the window I see one thing: Nothing wrong with the format of our Camper! Silly CCP......

you don't think the eve lore's any good compared to spock's brain D: what a poor opinion you have of eve's lore!

I would be very interested in a digital compendium following this format of ship deconstruction. It would answer numerous questions I have about ship layout, especially with larger ships and ships with unusual appearances.

Books are nice but my house might fall down if I buy any more. Digital access would be awesome, even if it's something you sell. Or posters, the last batch were stunning, but some might like techie style images like this with all the bits labelled.

ed. and postcard sized too. Not plastering EvE posters on my walls without a proper frame (which is pricey), and the card collection stuff doesn't appeal. But medium sized (maybe tablet level) in good quality finish would be nice.

Oooh.... Interactive.... Art book, but bring in game to the attributes window!!!
