They should give players choices of what skills they receive. Even if this means CCP creating focused skill sets you can choose on creation of your char.
Trader. PvP, Miner etc.

Destination SkillQueue:- It's like assuming the Lions will ignore you in the Savannah, if you're small, fat and look helpless.

This reminds me of an old Alcoholics Anonymous saying "Half measures availed us nothing." From a newbs perspective who was just at 0SP and is now at 2.2m SP, 400k SP looks like a step in the right direction but probably needs to be 1mil+ to make a real improvement IMO.

someone had a great idea of making opportunities and career agents reward SP, would be a great way to get newbies to 1++ mill SP quickly and also get people to do that stuff.

Is this backfilling, CCP?

Does that mean we all get 400,000?

Sod the new players, this is what I would like to know too!

Presumably, your character wasn't created less than two weeks away from the patch. So no.

Well, exactly. I know you're going to produce some figures that contradict what I'm saying, but it does seem unfair to hand over the SPs to them on a plate. I for one would love to put those free SPs into the PI tree (which I will never train on my own!)!

When I started playing, one of the joys of mine was looking how fast are skills trained and hurling there everyone I could find. New player, you will be spared that, I feel for you.

So perhaps this character will be getting 400,000 Skill points given to them?

It's only unfair to those new players who don't get the skills from the start. You already have them. That's why they get the SP and you do not. Blink

We paid 1-2 weeks worth of subscription to train those skills, now they are given to new players for free. How is that fair?

imho, everyone under 10m SP or 1 year old (mains only) should get the free 400k sp so they dont feel cheated, or even better everyone Twisted

What reason is there that they shouldn't they give 350k SP to everyone? No matter how long you've been playing, at some point you paid a subscription and spent 1-2 weeks training the new skills.

I dislike this idea for the same reason I hate all forced specialization at lower levels. You have literally no idea what you want to do when you first get in the door, forcing a newbie down one route to the detriment of the rest is the single worst part of EVE skills philosophy.

they can always biomass and start over.

it's not a bad idea if done right, as the skill system is very complex. what do players have to go by right now, mastery? they'll end up thinking they need ridiculous amounts of SP to fly a mission ship.

Because you've had full use of that SP for almost a year.
Hell, I got more than that for free — you should be angry at me, not the new players.

The vets got twice as much for free. So no, they were not screwed over by this. Hell, if they plaid their skill choice right, they will probably be nearly seven million SP ahead for free.

There's no need and no reason to.

That's how it works in other MMOs and it makes sense. Do tutorials, get SP. It's a no brainer and motivates newbs to learn the game. It could be: complete all opportunities get x amount of SP for general use. Complete a career agent's arc, get x amount of SP for career applicable skills. ie. complete the exploration career agent arc, get SP that can be used on exploration specific skills like scanning or whatever.

It's simply a nice gesture from CCP to the newer player. Though I personally will not benefit from it, it does please that some will and if it helps retain just one extra new player then op success imho.

that's a thought.

i started a new character recently and it reminded me that the bar is so high for newer players and it must be discouraging.

i quite literally can't bring a drake /o\

Let them start with a million or 2 to get rid of the 'I need x amount of lvl5 skills to enjoy the game" mentality.

They'll just move the goal post you know. Now they'll say "I need JDC V to be able to PVP!!!"

Probably true.

"They" need to be encouraged to look at competent new players skill plans eg Tippia's.

"They" need to be encouraged to look at the amazing newbie friendly groups available within the game eg Scipio's
