It was a quick night, but not a night without a little fun.

https://zkillboard.com/character/95817841/

This one was a guy that I kept seeing as a suspect about 175km off of the station. I couldnt catch him though, he was warping out or cloaking anytime I thought I'd catch him.

I looked up his killboard and corp history, saw that he was pretty experienced and would probably not see me as a threat, so after his suspect status wore off I challenged him to a duel.

My assumption was that he would try to come in at a far distance and get me with torpedoes given the ship he was in, and he'd been hanging around one mobile depot that was just about the perfect range (I think).

When he accepted, and after I calmed my black heart and wiped my sweaty paws, I quickly warped to the nearest belt and then back to that depot, landing right on it about 10 seconds before he did.

Warp/scram, pew pew. It was a rush. I actually owe it to Vimsy, as I'd learned from my last death that people who fly stealth bombers in high sec are bad. I can now agree. Ha ha.

It may not be as glorious, dangerous, or harsh as some of your stories but GOD DAMN it was exhilarating.

I think I am going to like it here. Can't wait to learn wtf I am doing with a little guidance.

LOL. You nailed Johan Force. This guy would sit in rookie systems and let them shoot at him. Then he would reship and blow them up. Too bad you didn't get the pod.

+1 to you, sir.

It wasn't from lack of trying. I almost had a lock when he warped off.

What is funny is that he did come back in a Legion to try to kill me but I was long gone bouncing between safe spots.

He got me back. -1 to me, ma'am.

I saw him undock in a Moa and head to an anomaly site so I went after him, took from a wreck to give him cause, and then tried to orbit tight and see what would happen.

Two things happened.

* I was doing ok but noticed his shield rep was holding up too well against my pathetic 75dps.
*My cap ran dry while running my web/scram and afterburner. I have neglected those skills trying to increase dps but I will be going back to those.

Ok, well three things happened.

*He blew me to smithereens once my capacitor died and armor repairer quit working.

Any comments or suggestions? A rifter vs a dual-rep Moa (he said), is there a chance in the hands of a newb? Scratch that, he said it was no dual-repped. He was referring to another ship.

P.S. - no laughing at the festival launcher/snowball in the high slot. I read a funny story on minerbumping, alright? Didnt really work out for me.

+1 for the snowball launcher.

I'd drop it and add a nos though.

This was my general setup when I first started

https://zkillboard.com/kill/40773127/

And by far cap skills/engineering skills are incredibly important. It's not a waste of time by any means to get those up quickly. Those are the general support skills that will translate to a benefit to any ship you fly.

By far the best advice I can give is to roam around with a few more people. Going at it solo is an uphill battle when you are just starting out.

If we have a WH open near your system I can give you a shout in game and we can kill people. I'm not the best PvP-er myself by any means, but I've finally ground enough ISK/SPs with this account that I want to turn him more PvP.

The nos will help when fighting a frigate or destroyer but might not really help against a cruiser or higher since their capacitor is a lot bigger and can handle a small nos. I would go with a rocket launcher in the 4th slot if you are up close or a light missile launcher if you are a kiter. 75 dps isnt much and most cruiser tanks can easily handle that. It would depend on his fit if he was ASB fit, or had to inject cap to keep everything going.

If the drones took him out, you need to learn how to switch and lock drones and shoot them. If he has no drones to take the Rifter out, then it is a matter of who runs out of support first. Your Rifter ammo or his tank.

No, you won. He enjoys baiting newbros, getting them to think they have the advantage and then come back in something blappy and humiliates the newbro. I think he gets off on it honestly. Dude creeped me out so I took him off of my contact list.

My feelings of inadequacy were assuaged by a couple kills later today. I grabbed a pod that was in criminal status, and dueled a condor that was watching me on the pod and took it too.

At the suggestion of a CODE rep I also tried a bit of ice theft today for quick and easy cash. If I had set myself up better I think I could have taken a Hulk in the ice anomaly. As it was, I was stealing in a Venture and had 10 minutes of suspect left when he aggressed me for peeking in a container, giving me the engagement timer. I didn't have a ship there and staged to go back and get him with it. IF I had a decent ship, and IF I would have timed it better for the engagement timer to overlap my suspect timer by a bit, I could have flown back in and fought him without worrying about the 35 other drones in the belt, right?

Lessons learned.

I was mainly thinking its better to specialize in gunnery and skip missile skills for now. IMO that's a quicker way to be effective aas a new player.

Long term cross train missiles, but I generally tell people to pick one weapons system and get good with it before going to the next

I giggled like a schoolgirl when you convo'd me and told me about that adventure. You've got what it takes.

If you think you've won, think again.

Don't get discouraged. Like she said above, you got what it takes to succeed in this game because you understand the basic mechanics of it. You understand that this game is PvP with mining and missions thrown in. Seriously, ask CODE if you can go fly in a few systems with them and see what it is like. The exhiliration of taking down a multibillion freighter was nothing like I could imagine and enjoyed the whole day doing it.

Now I have horrible PvP skills, which is why I don't gank or represent CODE, even though I have over 34m sp and have great gunnery skills. Speaking of CODE, I need to get a mining permit for my 3 week newbro that I am helping. Don't want him to get ganked in his Venture trying to get some isk.

I think you will do just fine in this game.

I agree. But it would take about a week or two to get basically competent in rockets and light missiles. I still really haven't trained missiles yet but I will be here in about 2.5 weeks. It would be just a bit more dps and be more effective than a NOS that won't have any effect on a cruiser capacitor.

Sorry if I wasn't any clearer.

Wouldnt it help MY cap issues though? Even if it didnt drain their cap to the point of affecting them, could it keep my web/scram/afterburner/dc/armor repper going a few seconds more?

If I remember correctly, a NOS negates a part of their capacitor and has no effect on yours. A vampire takes part of their capacitor and gives it to you, up to a limit. If you are going to put something there that has to deal with capacitor, go for a vampire. But in terms of affecting their cap, the NOS affects their capacitor more than a vampire does.

You're using terminology wrong. Nos is short for Nosferatu, meaning vampire. What you're actually meaning to say is Neut, short for Neutralizer. Subsequently it's as confusing as hell.

Nosferatus (AKA Energy Vampires or Nos ) reduce the target's capacitor level by a certain amount and give that same amount to you, however they don't work if the targets capacitor level is lower than your own (in percent).

Neutralizers (AKA Energy Destabilizes or Neuts ) remove a much larger amount of the target's capacitor and always work, however they don't give you anything back.

Flying a frigate fighting something bigger than you (subsequently with a more powerful capacitor) a nos is generally preferable because it allows you to exploit their superior capacitor capabilities to power your own modules. The longer you can keep your rep running and afterburner burning the better.

Just a small clarification......vampires don't go on percentages anymore...if your capacitor pool is smaller than the targets (in actual points) the vamp sucks cap from target...if not, has no effect. However, vamps use no capacitor when in use.

Where as neuts always burn enemy cap.....but also take cap to run, as well.

Also, any skill that increases powergrid, cap, armor/hull/shield capacity, and cpu is useful. Tons of skill guides for PVP newbro's out there, check em out.
