Eve online is a great game, we all love it, thats why we play it. it is also an ever changing game, with new mechanics replacing old to make things smoother and more enjoyable. However, with change comes the end of some mechanics that many of us may enjoyed.

This thread is to share what you miss most about previous iterations of the game.

Mine is kinda dumb. I love the new content release system of ~10 per year, but what i miss most about the old system was the hype generated by having to wait 6 months, the epic thematic trailers that went with the 6mo release schedule, it got me really excited and reinvigorated my playing spirit.

i also miss the old way we had to launch the game, ie: when Inferno was the expansion, when you launched the game and it had the back ground visuals with the epic music, you just cant get that experience with the way the game launches now

Also, jukebox ;P

Definitely the music. These days I have it turned off (can't watch stuff on my other monitor with all the beeping and booping going on), but whenever I hear it in trailers or YouTube videos it gets all up in my feels.

Not much else though, I'm loving where eve is at the moment.

I kinda miss having corpmates

I also miss the old sensor booster effect.

The way shields were a bubble around the ship, these days it just looks like the outside of your ship is shimmering or something.

the cnr model with the big launchers in the front. Also it used to have a better paint job.

Pvp before kill mails and kill boards. It used to be for fun or to accomplish a specific goal, not to mention the propaganda wars that would occur after major battles because no one side could be certain how much damage was actually done.

Since then everything is detailed out objectively by the game and the pvp mentality seems to revolve around nothing but stats and performance ratio's with people taking far fewer risks or just giving things a go in case they ruin their "score".

Oh my fav was the incursions theme with that cool song and bg vid. That was a very very cool launcher. Things are much "easier" now I guess Sad

Here it is, so terribly cool https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ba1hZO42wgc

And combat oriented explorer ships for hacking was a ton of fun, not just loot spew mini-game like now.

As for the jukebox, what it was for me was a true extension of the sandbox. Amateur musicians such as myself could make music tracks and load them into the jukebox of the game, and have full control with whatever was playing on the game jukebox, a part of the game now, something I liked about EQ1 and GTA as well with their jukebox/players. I also put in songs from other EVE fans that they made (which really doesn't happen any longer), to express the atmosphere of what EVE was. When they took that away, it was like "you can't do that, it's our game and we are here to hold you hand, we define your experience here". So, was sad.

I'm in it for the money

I want my jukebox back. I had such an amazing playlist for EVE, and then they took it all away from me.

Jukebox want back. Also I miss my old portrait, everyone's portraits tbh.

@Stephanie Rosefire, regarding the old way to launch it... find the exefile.exe in \bin\ in your installation folder and start the game bypassing the launcher for the old feel.

I miss having to login to eve uphill both ways in the freezing snow, and having to pay ccp for permission for playing.

But I was happier then, and I had nothing.

Even just reading this thread brings back so many fond memories!

In no particular order:

Jukebox - "too difficult to maintain" wtf
Idle Guns being relevant - spicing up COSMOS in Ihak
can flipping
old portraits - there should be an option on character Show Info to swich between old and new portraits
Retribution theme best theme - well, after Rev II which just happens to be when I joined

I get so nostalgic remembering all the nostalgia threads I have seen before.
(P.S. Really glad the Jukebox is gone. It made EVE really unstable for a lot of us.)

CCP - Building ant hills and magnifying glasses for fat kids

Not even once

EVE is becoming shallow and puerile; it will satisfy neither the veteran nor the "WoW" type crowd in the transition.
