Probably they decided it was a bad idea after seeing all the abuses.
Given it's you know..... legalised permission for recycling -10 gank alts at that point. Who start able to fly a nice T2 Tornado & Talos as well as Catalysts.
Fanfest announcements are also not 'Upcoming patches' but ideas.

Start the noob character. Drop its pvp book at the priest of discord, go for it.

Complete disclaimer. If you get podded, you die.

Even make it a real race.

And make it a 1 way choice (you get attached to the person and don't want it dead, tough)

Hmmm... 12m SP and cant trade or drop anything.

But really, if it's just SP handout, it's not much of a permadeath. If you can just grab 20m sp at will, or even 10m, farm with it and dump everything onto your main, well... it's nothing about permadeath really. Er a better edit.

It is not an official part of the development plan for Eve as far as I'm aware.

Often talked about and most recently picked up by CCP Rise as a side project.

So I'd say more likely, based on Rise's comments about it not being something coming right away or anytime soon, that he has been busy with the NPE and the rest of the dev team is busy with their existing work, combined with tough things to manage that are outlined here (start 25:39)

Seems given the ideas outlined by Rise in that presentation that abuse just by nasty gankers wouldn't really be a huge issue because it's something they are actively considering as part of the discussion (eg. permanent suspect) and there are many other issues.

Well the thing is that when an especially stupid idea is somebody's special pet, then it takes a while for the pet owner to progress from privately admitting to oneself that it's a thundering bucket of laughably ******** whalepoop to publically admitting that it's a thundering bucket of laughably ******** whalepoop.

Generally it's far, far easier to just quietly pretend that it never existed at all. With maybe a light sprinkling of trying to blame some external circumstance or agency for cancelling it,

there is always the risk of that, but ccp does have a troll side too.... kinda hoping it was a troll, I think they said something about a start over server too sooo....

After giving it a thought i found out where they are - right next to the 'start out in npc a nullsec as a pirate faction char' - you might still remember the powerful noob ships the devs gave out - also during a Las Vegas event. Those ships and the permadeath chars might or might not be holding their hands and being accused of incest.

I am not old, just bitter.

I want to dislike this idea but part of me likes the thought of new players rolling some toons to practice things and throw away.

People say "you can fly tackle and be effective in week 1" - and it's true - but I'm not sure new players always see it that way. Perhaps if they could yolo into the action with some serious skillpoints, even if the result is to die in a fire they would care less about dying and more about playing.

I can see the obvious abuse cases of rolling toons to gank with, throw away, rinse repeat - that would need to be handled in some way.

Perhaps.... perhaps this is The Thing New Player Experience Needs.

Meh, just ban these characters from hi-sec. Lore reason being that CONCORD and the Empires consider these experimental fast-growth clones cloned in very unlicensed (pirate) cloning labs to be an aberration and thus have banned them. The unstable nature of their "manufacturing" would explain their permadeath feature.


It could also be spun into a story plot as an attempt by the pirate factions to get a leg up on the Empires by "fast-growing" "disposable" capsuleers to counter the Empire Navies (given how much more effective capsuleer ships are over normally crewed ships.)

Or maybe they could become disposable elite soldiers to fight the Drifters. Especially given the lore on how Dust soldiers were created.


tl;dr - Make the permadeath clones only available from pirate factions and thus insta-killed in high-sec by CONCORD. Which would eliminate the disposable ganking alt problem.


Editor's Note: Listing the other problems this would cause is left as an exercise for the reader.


edit: It could also be a sneaky way to encourage hesitant players into null-sec...

Pon Farr Memorial: once every 7 years, all the carebears in high-sec must PvP or they will be temp-banned.
