So yesterday while awaiting the breath of life to return to TQ, I saw an add for a VOIP service call Gamevox

I am just wondering from the EVE community of anyone has seen/used this before.

The prices seemed a whole lot better than manyof the other services.
And some of the other features looked rather great for small/big groups.

Edit: realized I forgot to ask for information from those who used it!

Or just get TS3 and you can get 32 players on without even paying.

Use mumble for quality.

bingo, his pig not being a goat doesn't make the pig wrong, just him an idiot for shouting at his pig "WHY ARENT YOU A GOAT!" (Source)

As the replies are short I'll add a few more things from my side

1: I have used TS/ventrilo/Mumble. Each had their pros and cons.

2: the biggest con I find for Mumble is the lack of personal audio control. - I can mute myself or deafen myself but I can't lower the volume on loud mouth Larry or turn silent Sally up.

3: TS/Ventrilo are nearly the same - TS is much better imo.

Yet - I would still like to know more about Gamevox. For future reference if/when I get a corp VoIP

And what does that have to do with my question?

No agreeing that I am or am not an American patriot.

Mumble, because bald eagles 'n ****.

All joking aside: I am a sucker for free software. If you already run a server of some sort (and if you have a corp website, forum, killboard, whatever, you probably do), you can just slap murmur on there and you are good to go. Sound quality and latency are nice and it is reasonably easy to install, configure and use. Especially for larger communities, Mumble is the best if not the only real option, since you can run it wherever you want and don't need to think about licensing plans and client numbers - whatever your server can handle is fine.

As far as proprietary options go - Ventrilo over TeamSpeak I never really got. People claimed the sound quality was better than TeamSpeak but I never quite heard that. I also found it ugly and complicated, and that's probably why pretty much nobody uses it anymore.

For smaller communities, TeamSpeak 3 seems quite alright, as it's easy to set up and the first 32 slots are free. You can get up to 512 slots with a non-commercial license, howerver - that's just another unnecessary step and a potential error source. I have a virtual root that costs me 4.99 a month running a TS server that can handle 20 people, which is more than enough for the majority of corps in Eve.

Unlike Mumble and TeamSpeak 3, GameVox doesn't seem to have Linux support "yet" and unless it has some really cool feature I cannot even imagine at the moment, my verdict is: "Meh!"

Thank you -
I am not all smart on the tech support stuff. I knew people did a lot of crazy stuff with their forums and mumble.
Gamevox seems to be beta still. So who knows what they will end up with - I did like the "no IP" stuff they offer. And the anti-DDOS.
