Then you people are doing a lot better than us oldsters. Some of us stopped with straight C and PERL. Ruby, Python, your fancy objects, when we were pleased and ever so impressed with functions? This is just one of the issues I have with all the new tech. Not only is it personally unfulfilling, since no single person can, any longer, comprehend the entirety of the code, it's also prone to inexplicable, and hard to debug errors.

There was something to be said for simplicity. Yes, I'm getting revenge for my last job interview where I was told, and I quote 'Get out of here, old dude!' It was funny, but rude, so every time this happens in today's systems, I have to laugh.

We also started from C and simple sh. I am 47 y.o. guy BTW. SO I know all this old stuff but new as well. And I could tell where to uses one or another.

I know. But you have to account for the mindset. I already told you what it was, earlier. I left the FreeBSD project when it was unfulfilling. It became that when the sheer amount of coding being contributed, the modules, the enhancements, etc, caused me to have to rely on others. When the day came that I had to trust in your 'black box,' I called it a day.

I just don't like it, and many in my generation, and truth be told, even yours, don't like it. We don't have a problem with understanding what is being done, but in accepting it. We just don't like not knowing the whole picture. I know that may sound outdated and stupid, but it is what it is. When we can't comprehend the entirety of what is going on, because it's too complex, we opt, instead, to accept reduced complexity.

Clearly, that is not acceptable to the ever more complex world. It does, however, come with certain pitfalls, that being, in the main, a massively complex problem in debugging. I'm not saying the things won't work; I'm saying that they are god-awful hard to fix, when they don't.

You know, I was excited of SmartOS which is fork of Illumos which is based on OpenSolaris etc. We even built our datacenter on these technologies because I believe that best engineers worked in SUN (sorry if you think that they did at FreeBSD). And from one hand hand our DC performs well and reliably from other if our customers have unknown unknown problems (as Brendan Gregg said recently) the pitfal could take much more time that was expected, you're right.
BUT.
THese nust happen in test or stage environment not in production. I believe that even with these MEgaTerabetes of memory in prod there could be in place test and stage environment. which are the same as prod. I believe that CCP has it.
And the issue is in REAL DATA which flows in prod.
Probably the thing that CCP has no in place is Traffic Simulator - Emulator of real traffic on test/stage servers.

And even then. you're right, we could not know certainly that everything will launch OK in prod.

So short form of my answer is - you're right, world becamr complex. :)

UPD: sorry for bad English, mistypes and mistakes. But I hope you understood me.

i hear people continue to say they mean it's because of the update alone or something like that, but DUST, CREST is also down and Duality and singularity have been periodically down as well during the DT so i kinda feel is not just a code error in tranquility aloneRoll

Actually, this is a pretty interesting observation. I would be very curious to hear other people's thoughts as to what could cause all the different aspects to fail at the same time.

the answer is that CCP tried to nerf connection.

Reading through this topic.. I have to say I am, yet again, very impressed how nice the EVE Community is. I switched over from World of Warcraft and I can not even imagine what those kids would say and do on the forum if something like this happened.

Good job being patient, guys :)

I can, I was there for a huge technical problem and the rage was ********. The servers were down for almost an entire day and the forums where just packed with "I'm quitting wow" messages in far less kind words.

Would be super nice if by way of compensation for paying for a product that we are currently unable to use, we could be reimbursed with something that we can actually use within the game and not the empty gesture of some useless skill points that can only be used on the test server. Is the equivalent of being reimbursed in monopoloy money

Can you imagine the possible profit loss if they gave a compensation PLEX and people used it next month instead of paying for one?
