I appreciate the updates CCP has been giving us. Mocking "investigation is on going" and loudly decrying the effectiveness of the servers (especially the wanna be programmers) is rather pathetic. I wish the CCP taskforce assigned to the cluster melt-down the best of luck and an extra dose of patience!

I am stunned at the level of entitlement expressed in this thread.

Sometimes things go wrong with complex IT systems, especially when changes get made. Most updates of late have gone pretty smoothly and most downtimes have been minutes long.

So enough with the bitching already. Go outside, kick a ball around, say hello to your wife/boyfriend/husband/girlfriend/kids/dog...

Then you people are doing a lot better than us oldsters. Some of us stopped with straight C and PERL. Ruby, Python, your fancy objects, when we were pleased and ever so impressed with functions? This is just one of the issues I have with all the new tech. Not only is it personally unfulfilling, since no single person can, any longer, comprehend the entirety of the code, it's also prone to inexplicable, and hard to debug errors.

There was something to be said for simplicity. Yes, I'm getting revenge for my last job interview where I was told, and I quote 'Get out of here, old dude!' It was funny, but rude, so every time this happens in today's systems, I have to laugh.

We also started from C and simple sh. I am 47 y.o. guy BTW. SO I know all this old stuff but new as well. And I could tell where to uses one or another.

I know. But you have to account for the mindset. I already told you what it was, earlier. I left the FreeBSD project when it was unfulfilling. It became that when the sheer amount of coding being contributed, the modules, the enhancements, etc, caused me to have to rely on others. When the day came that I had to trust in your 'black box,' I called it a day.

I just don't like it, and many in my generation, and truth be told, even yours, don't like it. We don't have a problem with understanding what is being done, but in accepting it. We just don't like not knowing the whole picture. I know that may sound outdated and stupid, but it is what it is. When we can't comprehend the entirety of what is going on, because it's too complex, we opt, instead, to accept reduced complexity.

Clearly, that is not acceptable to the ever more complex world. It does, however, come with certain pitfalls, that being, in the main, a massively complex problem in debugging. I'm not saying the things won't work; I'm saying that they are god-awful hard to fix, when they don't.

Couple of points:

1. IS the drinking game still on? It's Fozzie's fault

2. CCP thank you for trying to change Sov & Null. Keep up the good work.

3. What did Fozzie break? *hic*

4.Love that someone quoted HAL for 2001/10 in the thread.

5.Someone call Fozzie & find out what he did to break it *hic* *hic*

6. Oh sod it: Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it, Fozzie broke it.

Yo CCP!

Check your serverfarm. If there's a dead basking shark with a fibercable up its arse where the login-server should be, chances are you've buried the server down at the beach. Blade-server hakarl tastes horrible.
