Is this game dying?

I noticed on eve-offline.net that the online population for this game is just getting less and less. Seems like this game hit the peak in 2013, and it's just been in a downtrend for the past few years.

There's Elite Dangerous that came out, and also Star Citizen that's about to come out.

Perhaps it was not such a bad idea when the devs wanted to implement Walk in Station a few years ago, along with some Walk in Station games.

And perhaps ultimately having a First Person Shooter mode / ship takeover mode, etc. etc. for Eve (like the one they just put on hold for Star Citizen).

Because for the game to remain competitive - it has to evolve, and not just keep revising the existing game mechanics (which is what they have been doing...like re-designing ships, re-designing sovereignty mechanics). But I assume it's also hard to attract new capital investment into the company considering how Dust 514 went.

Perhaps a few years ago, the developers had a good long term plan of keeping the game competitive by adding Walk in Station, and other things you can do besides flying your ship in 3rd person view.

However, the short sighted players started complaining, so they had to stop.

I personally think this game would be more popular today if they just went ahead with walk in station, and not listen to the short sighted players complaining.

Forum rules

17. Redundant and re-posted threads will be locked.

As a courtesy to other forum users, please search to see if there is a thread already open on the topic you wish to discuss. If so, please place your comments there instead. Multiple threads on the same subject clutter up the forums needlessly, causing good feedback and ideas to be lost. Please keep discussions regarding a topic to a single thread.

23. Post constructively.

Negative feedback can be very useful to further improve EVE Online provided that it is presented in a civil and factual manner. All users are encouraged to honestly express their feelings regarding EVE Online and how it can be improved. Posts that are non-constructive, insulting or in breach of the rules will be deleted regardless of how valid the ideas behind them may be. Users are also reminded that posting with a lack of content also constitutes non-constructive posting.
