Customising the interface for Veteran Players

Let me first introduce myself as an old skool EVE player who has become bent on using customised shortcuts and settings within the game. Eve is a complex game with many controls and I am sure that there are many others like me who enjoy the feature of being able to customise how their interface looks and operates.

Over recent months, however, I have become increasingly frustrated with how difficult setting up the interface in EVE can be. This coupled with the occasional CCP resetting of all settings (which must then be re-established on all accounts individually) and introduction of features designed for new players which impinge on my experience has drawn me here to offer my take on how I would like customisation of the interface to operate in my own personal ideal world:

1. Customisation of shortcuts could be made considerably easier by adding the option to change key bindings without first locating where the original shortcut is linked to un-bind it. As it stands currently, if I should request a shortcut change, the game reports that the key is already bound to another function, but fails to give the option to change it anyway. Consequently changing bindings takes an inordinate amount of time where it should be a fairly fluid process.

2. An option to turn off features intended for new players would be ideal. A simple check box could be impleented in the general settings to disable features for new players such as 'Opportunities', 'ISIS', 'Help', 'Tutorials' etc. I can understand that these features are helpful to new players learning the game, but to experienced players they're no more than a nuisance window to be closed.

3. The default positioning for the fleet window really needs to be addressed. Popping up right in the middle of the screen is visually offensive and automatically requires shifting. Appearing on the right hand side of the screen linked below the Overview would be a reasonable default location.

4. Setting up of overview tabs is still in dire need of assistance. I still can't figure out how to set-up a new tab without changing all of them, so I end up doing them one at a time, saving each, then re-importing.

5. I would very much like it to be possible to save settings online for an account, so I can always re-establish my old settings even if I drop my PC in the toilet.

I support this, playing the game sometimes on a second computer, having to adjust all the overview windows brackets each time I switch is just really annoying at least. And the help and tutorial get in the way for each new character or start on a freshly installed eve for nothing.

In the name of Jirai 'Fatal' Laitanen : “Some capsuleers claim that ECM is 'dishonorable' and 'unfair'. Jam those ones first, and kill them last.”

Shocked

Someone go check the thermostat in Hell, I think it froze over.

Other than the fleet window positioning, which keeps its place on my clients once I set it somewhere, I can't see a lot wrong with anything here, and actually would like to see it implemented.

I would love to be able to remove all tooltips except the popup which shows me how much heat damage I have taken.

So basically a giant F1 button then...?

I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.
