I would like to re-familiarize myself with the basics of the game since I have been away for so long.

Also:

1. Where is a good place to get caught up on everything that has happened with Eve for the last few years? I have done some initial browsing but there is so much information out there i'm not sure where to start,LOL.

2. There used to be a tool that let me put in my API, select what type of ship I wanted (I think it let me place fittings also) and the program would tell me what I needed to train to be able to use that ship and how long it would take to get everything trained....does anyone remember this and if it is still available anywhere?

Thanks!

Sounds like EVEMON. You also have EFT for just fitting ships.

As far as last few years, that's tough. If you tell us how long ago you stopped playing, we may be able to give you a brief overview. Otherwise, scroll back through the dev blogs or browse the EVE University wiki and see what sounds different.

I think if you press f12 you can pull up the tutorials. although they might have been rolled over into the opportunity system. Alternatively try the career agents as they are more or less slightly more advanced tutorial missions.

1. I think someone has a high level patchnotes post somewhere. sadly I don't have a link
2. as said earlier evemon sounds mostly right. although don't know that it has fitting functions. it does have an item browser where you can check out items. There are a few fitting tools, I'm most familiar with EFT, but there are a few others over in the ships and modules forums (maybe more in the eve-tech lab?)

The app functionality that I believe you were talking about was a combination of Evemon and EFT together. They work very well together. I know that Memphis linked them already I just thought that I should point out you need to fit the ship in EFT and export the fit to Evemon to get done what you are talking about.

I know this does not help you now but the Devs are working on some web page that is supposed to be a timeline of patches and changes so you can easily see what has changed since you left. I think it is due for release very soon.

All of the tutorial agents are still around, and still in the same stations.

You should be able to find them with Agent Finder, or just looking them up with Google.

Additionally, the SoE epic arc starting in Arnon is still a thing, it runs you through many basic mechanics over the course of the mission series, including the new hacking minigame for exploration.
