Boosting from Cloaked Orca

I'm wondering about some of the mechanics of boosting miners from an Orca. I see that an Orca can fit a cloak, so:

Do miners still receive its boosts while cloaked?

The Orca just needs to be in space in the system of the miners, but not necessarily in the belt?

Theoretically if I wanted to farm LP via mining missions, I could cloak my Orca in a safe spot in the mission system and not have to move him around while my miner keeps accepting missions & getting mining boosts? This is assuming the mining site is in the same system every time.

Seeing as you can't cycle modules while cloaked, no. Not unless you count the passive boosts from the mining leadership skills.

Yes, the orca doesn't have to be in the belt for the boosts to affect the miners. Mining boosts are also the only boosts that work from within a pos shield.

Just an FYI... if you are doing mining and missions in high-sec then all you need to do is TANK your Orca.

Very few people will attempt to gank an overtanked Orca... especially if all it is doing is providing boosts (with nothing in it) or storing/hauling rocks (which won't be worth enough).

Your mining ship (regardless of what it is) is actually at more risk of being suicide ganked than your Orca.

In Hi-Sec, which is the safest place for an Orca to sit, whether tanked for untanked:

-Outside a station (station guns / more rapid response time from CONCORD?)
-In a "safe" spot, far away from celestials (resilient to scanners)
-Somewhere else (near a planet, in the asteroid belt, etc.)

The safest place is inside your POS's shield, the next best would be well inside the station's docking ring (it's actually a sphere but is commonly referred to as a ring), although you will need to pay attention as it is pretty easy to bump you out of it. You don't rely on the protection of the station guns, you simply dock if bumped or attacked.

- CONCORD does not care where you are in a system... they will respond no faster or slower than what the security rating of the system dictates (5 seconds in 1.0 systems... ~15 seconds in 0.5 systems)
That said... if you can switch your clients around quick enough (dual monitors FTW) then yes, a station is safer... but still not entirely safe.

- Sitting in a safespot will certainly deter your average suicide gank squad (probing = extra effort)... but it will also make you "stand out" to people who are using probes (for any reason). And they may get curious. And if they find you, and are nefarious, they will find some way to take advantage of the situation.
However... even then, you are pretty safe.

- Refer to the first point. CONCORD doesn't care.

Honestly though... it will be simply be fleet support. Unless you are carrying/fitted with something "shiny" (we are talking something that will be worth 100-300+ million ISK worth) and/or you are anti-tanked (see: you fitted modules that make you easier to gank) the chances of being killed by a suicide squad are usually in the single digit percentages (depending on who lives in the area).

Now if someone declares war on your corporation (you will get a 24 hour advance warning in your mail)... that is a WHOLE OTHER issue.

I'd probably just sit in belt with an orca and use that big fleet/ore hangar. and yea fit a tank on the orca. honestly if people are going to take me out in a fully tanked orca (400k ehp+) I'm just going to laugh about it.

^^ That.

The Orca is more useful at your side being a super-tanky storage container.
