A PLEX is 450,000,000 and 3500 AUR. That gives 128,570 ISK per AUR, or 257,000,000 for 2000 AUR.

But as the conversion is mostly one way (AUR to ISK) the market tends to control the price and has resulted in a lower value. For example, incarna items worth 2000 AUR can be bought at Jita for 30 million ISK right now.

True but those items will slowly be taken off the market and the value should return to normal plex / isk value rather than the current strange situation.

There is an awful lot of unclaimed/unused Aurum out there right now.
I strongly doubt you will any "return to normal plex/ISK value" anytime soon, if ever.

Because if it did, all the people like me who think space barbies is ridiculous will start using our AUR to buy crap for the barbie players so we can get ISK for something useful. And that is a long, long way off.

I think it mainly depends on how incarna will evolve. If it stays at just CQ's it will take years for the prices to stabilize but if we get establishments and stuff i think the demand for these items would skyrocket and than stabilize at maybe 3500aurum = 80%* PLEX price or something.

But yeah it's a (very) long term "investment"

If we suddenly got walking in stations where we could interact, get coffee shops, restaurants, clubs and just places to hang out... The free aur we got would vanish ultra fast - people would at first find it useless and without value to soon see how crippling their impulsive buying was. If we get full, working WiS I expect the aurum price to get normal within a month from implementing.

Of note is the present low isk price for incarna items means that only a few uninformed players convert PLEX to AUR. That means the preset high PLEX price is not due to demand for NEX store items. It must be due to demand from speculators and people who wish to play for "free", along with the low supply as large number of eve players have learned how to make the ISK they need.

Looking at the monocle and plex markets in Domain, it looks like you're better off selling plex directly for isk instead of breaking it down to buy monocles to sell.

There isn't any conversion of aurum to isk so it's erroneous to conclude that 1 plex is about 3500 aurum and thereby 450mil isk. Unfortunately there's no direct conversion except through the purchase of NeX items to be sold on the isk market. The last time I looked aurum was worth about 92% less than the isk required to purchase a plex to convert to aurum. So, in terms of isk, there isn't any value in aurum approaching anywhere near the isk value of a plex.

The prices are perfectly reasonable. Just because the Noble Exchange is one of those stores where "if you have to ask how much it costs, you can't afford it" doesn't mean the prices are unreasonable.

What is incredibly comedic is the people blowing their gifted Aurum on items from the Noble Exchange which they are then trying to sell on the commodities market at any price. Or worse, people buying up PLEX and converting to Aurum, then as some kind of self-flagellation protest, selling the items they buy with that Aurum at below conversion cost of the Aurum itself.

Is $4000 a reasonable amount to spend on a handbag?

Which goes to show just how big of flop the NeX store has been. You would expect raw PLEX to command a small premium as you can either use it for game time or convert it to aurum. But the fact that the conversion rates don't even come close goes to show that even over the course of several months, there isn't nearly enough player interest in NeX items to absorb the aurum that CCP gave away.

Edit: Is it now possible to convert aurum into aurum tokens or is the only way to consolidate all of your "free" aurum onto one toon is still to file a petition?

I'd speculate if you took them out of Jita and dropped the price to 90 a reseller would buy it, move it back to Jita and recontract it for 95.

Aurum store still has the beta index. It will for a while to come by the looks of things, so either hang on to your tokens or just unload them for as much as you can get.
