Hybrid Races / Racial Blending

A couple Fanfests ago, a CCP Dev showed a tech demo based off the Carbon character creator where he showed that Racial Blending was possible. (I cannot for the life of me remember if this was Fanfest 2012 or 2013).

In his talk, he said you would still choose your base race like normal and therefore would inherit the starting racial skills of that race, but then you could add 1 other race to "blend" into your character, up to a mix of 55% base / 45% secondary.

I have been hoping for a couple years now that CCP would finally release this as a proper feature of the character creator.

I know its going to sound silly next to epic internet spaceships, but for an immersion/mild-rp player like myself, I think this could be a very cool addition to the EVE experience, plus characters would be come just that much more unique.

I would like to formally propose (request?) that CCP revisit this idea and consider its implementation, and allow existing characters a resculpt opportunity to apply this blending.

Thoughts?

So beyond petty elitism, anyone have any constructive feedback?

What would this do?

A new character would start with their normal racial skills, but also have the option to add some skillpoints in another race's ship or weapon category?

So first of all, why would this excite you, if you've already created your character?

Second, if you create a new Gallente character, and you want some skillpoints in Missiles and Caldari ships, it doesn't take long at all to just plug in Caldari Frigate, some basic Missile skills, and then get Caldari Destroyer and Cruiser shortly after.

-1 because why bother? Waste of Dev time. This would only effect new players (who don't know anything about skills or races anyways), or existing players creating new characters (who don't need any help getting extra starting skillpoints for their spy and cyno alts).

EVE has ZERO (0) restrictions on skills based on race, so no matter what race you create a character for, you can train every other skill.

Completely unnecessary feature.

I have already stated that this would be a pure immersion feature. If all you care about is min/maxing and internet spaceships then you are replying to the wrong thread, and honestly you don't even need a character portrait to play min/max internet spaceships, you might as well have one of the generic helmet pictures like the Dust514 portraits.

As far as "waste of dev time" if you watched the video clip I linked, they already had a working prototype at Fanfest 2012, which means they had already spent time on such a feature, why not see it through to completion.

Again...

why see it through to completion?

If you want to RP that your mom was Caldari and your Dad was Minmatar, just train the skills and say so in your bio.

My point isn't that this is a bad idea... just that it's a dumb, useless idea. Like literally a waste of a single second of Dev time.

Sorry =\

to be fair, there are certain features in the absic design on some races that are near impossible to get on the others, and mixing/matching those features could make some impressively beautful, or horrifying, results. Heck, this girl I know in kenya, parents are interracial, shes got the ebst of both worlds, like a tall, thin, permatanned model, and then her sister has literally the WORST traits from both parents, like a real-life Large Collidable Object (darn, search wasnt working, couldnt pull up the character on the forums)

Train up your reading comprehension. It isnt just for skills. But being able to make your characters actual model a blend between amar / caldari and other mixes. Allowing for more unique character models.

I'd like to see this feature even though I won't use it for myself.

Protip: when EVE-Gate search is down, you can pull up avatars on EVE Avatars.

looks to me like this fell into the same pit as WiS and remodeling of several ships, as well as a few other forgotten small ideas that never seem to be done.

I comprehended this useless idea perfectly, I know that was part of the reason for it. The visual blending part of the idea is SO utterly pointless and dumb, that I ignored it completely.

I get it, some people would like this... literally for sh*ts and giggles, just to go "Look mom my character is half caldari, half minmatar... isn't the unique facial structure cool??"

I understand. Some of you guys think this would just be "cool" to have.

I'm saying I'd rather see the devs add a bathroom to the captains quarters than waste a single second doing this. Just my opinion, you can ignore it or tell me why your opinion is better, but I see no good reason why this should ever be done.

You can make your character look almost any way you want if you know how to use the character sculpting tool, you already look mixed to me, so what exactly are you asking for? Like the guy above says put a few lines in your bio and be done with it.
