Resulting me exploding to station guns!

I went to the first lowsec place I could find - Parts. I found a Catalyst on a station that looked like he was afk, he had undocked and walked away or something. I approached him with my afterburner on and since we were around 160 kilometers from station I figured it would be safe to start shooting him....

It was not safe. I got killed by station guns!! how dumb.

Question is how far would I have had to be to not get shot by the guns?

Well I wasn't satisfied with that first encounter, so I made up another Atron similar to that one I lost, and set destination for a new lowsec system called Syllin.

I could see a few things on my directional scanner but I had accidentally landed with a Retriever and a Curse at a belt! Thinking I could maybe shoot the Retreiver I got a few shots off and then I was instantly killed by the pirate in the Curse. I tried to private convo him afterwards but he had blocked me after a few tries.

I have enough money for one more atron then I will have to go back to mining Big smile dunno why this is so much fun but it is.

I believe the range of the guns is 150km off the gate or station. Don't quote me on that though.

This is my understanding as well, never tested it though.

You were pretty close to that range. Next time if he is AFK just bump him (run your ship into him) further away so that you can be sure he is out of range.

Also, consider joining faction warfare. You can use the FW Plexes to get loyalty points that will make you isk much faster than mining. The plexes are also one of the best places to find solo fights.

Checking your killboard, you did manage to sneak in on the Retriever kill with 6 hitpoints worth of damage. Good on ya, m8 Big smile

And it's fun because it's fun. Fun doesn't need a reason.

Now about that Atron fit.....I link this article a lot because it's the fit I used for a while. Consider switching over to this.

It's actually not that bad if he decided to focus on hunting stabbed farmers, but I agree, Derptron for unfocused roaming. Works even better if you find a fleet to fly with.

Yeah, I'm not hating the fit, I just think dual-scram is a little too specialized for someone's first lessons in fighting.

Have multiple fits in your cargo, in low it's easy to switch ... Stabbed farmers usually don't run away if someone shows up on local.Blink

Newbies with a 'shoot first, ask if it was a good idea or not later' attitude are the best type of newbies.

I wish you well.

Nice first attempt. Good luck to u

Also maybe if a similar situation arises align urself to some celestial before u start firing if u take station or gate guns hit warp on that same celestial and u will warp instantly. Providing u are not scrammed.

Edit -prolly need something wih more tank than a natron to survive that first volley tho

Looking back... at my first engagement I admit I had a bit of tunnel vision going on. I landed at the station and the target was 160 kilometers from me, but that might not have been how far away the station was. lol I took about 3 hits from station guns, was almost instantaneous lol

My second engagement was crazy too.. I heard I got on the kill but I don't see it anywhere?

Got lots of great advice here so thanks guys and a very generous donation as well Big smile Helped me get some skillbooks and I am definitely gonna go out again.

How low can my security go before I can't go back to my school? Would I be considered too young for FW? (I do like the thought of FW)

Google "zkillboard" plus your name. Killboards keep track of all the kills you were a part of. Your kill list in-game only shows the kills you received the "final blow" on so most people use killboards to keep track of their "memories".

The faction police will chase criminals in highsec (people with low security status) but if you are in a quick ship you can avoid them fairly easily. Different security levels of systems require a certain level of security status as shown here. Once you fall below -5 you also become a target for other players in highsec, which makes things quite a bit harder as they can easily just scramble you and hold on until the police come and destroy you.

It's never too early to join faction warfare. It's a great place to start PVPing because a large portion of the combat is done in frigates and destroyers which are cheap and quick to train into. Also, most of the fights occur in and around FW complexes instead of gates/stations, which means you don't have to worry about the sentry guns.

The warzone can be rough for solo players though, especially ones lacking in skills and experience. I'd recommend looking for an established FW corp (or nearby pirate corp) to help you get your space-legs. Once you are comfortable flying in fleets and small gangs you can start striking out on your own if soloing is of interest to you.

Be careful with FW, the security status is never your problem, as you can buy it up again with tags (throw in ISK, get status increase). Corporation standing loss is also not an issue. It's the opposing faction standing loss you have to worry about as it can exclude you from half of highsec and it's difficult to repair. Have a look here http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Factional_Warfare_Standings to get an idea about what to avoid if in FW.

Just promise you won't become one of those people who are super stupid obsessed with their killboard stats. Already plenty of people like that in game, no need for one more P
