Interesting, looking forward to try it.

Also am I right assuming that this is essentially the same cache being used by EVE Probe already?

Looking for more thoughts? Follow me on Twitter.

Once this is coming to TQ, will we get a dropdown option in the launcher to pick which server we want to connect to?

Will this make the patching process any faster?

While I do understand the benefits of this change... there are cons to be considered, too.

I'm not gifted with a high speed + unlimited bandwith connection and chaning the provider won't fix it because there is no other option (and won't be within near future).
My current workaround for the high volume releases:
Start the launcher on a laptop on patch day at a place with high speed + unlimited bandwith connection (work, uni, ...), once the patch is downloaded I can copy&paste it at home, no further download required.

With DoD that won't work anymore. I'll get a mini-patch and only while playing the main part of the patch will be downloaded, eating my monthly bandwith available. Hint: I won't be able to play while at work, it's already nice enough to be allowed to download stuff, won't push that any further.

Do whatever you want or need... but PLEASE think a bit out-of-the-box or even sandbox!

Each player with a low bandwith/volume would be thankfull if you could provide a link where we can download the FULL patch, copy it to an USB stick and take it home.

Not at this time. This idea has come up, but when/if this becomes a reality, I am not willing to say.

If you take a look at this Dev blog http://community.eveonline.com/news/dev-blogs/download-on-demand-client-for-eve-online/
They already said that they will provide a way to download the full patch at once.

Ccp will be able to stream changes and new content into the client remotely. Basically if ccp decides to hot drop a Drifter Titan into Jita and doomsday 4-4, they technically could now with minimal notice to the player (stream the texture and files to those in jita at the time, wait a few minutes for the files to upload, then begin event.

That's my guess.

Also this seems to be the first step into eliminating downtime for the purpose of patching (garbage collection and feeding the hamster still requires it though).

Yaay!!!!

This will absolutely work for you as before! There is an option in the launcher to download all the resources. You could do the patch on your laptop, copy the EVE folder (which will be much smaller than before) + the sharedCache folder to your USB, and you are good to go.

Incidentally, we will provide a full-installer for those wishing to use that.

So atm if I download the DoD Client that was used on Duality and link it to Sisi it tries to download the full 7 GB Patch. So are the Changes not online yet or am I doing something wrong?

So this was brought up before and (I believe) confirmed was a problem. But how is this going to work with the popular and well known bug of the Mac client freezing if your downloading things in the background? Has that elusive bug finally been fixed or are you about to kill every Mac client that tries to use this?
