I am doubting this is a priority for CCP. I find the situation particularly frustrating because it leaves some alliances with logos and some without.

So I would like to suggest that the lawyers consider putting a "give us all the rights and all the things" agreement into place so that any new logos are just handed over to CCP as owned intellectual property. If some geographies have laws that don't allow this kind of agreement to be made, then exclude those geographies from participation.

After all, my alliance is not trying to make money off the image and it would be good to simply be identified in game.

The other idea I liked is to allow for the corp logo system to be used for alliances.

Something needs to happen. Soon.

CCP, when are you going to resolve the issue with alliance logos? It's been six months since the last CCP post in the official thread, and almost a year since submissions themselves were suspended.
We told you from the start that your approach was unnecessary and abusive, so you've responded by stonewalling us and hoping we'd forget about it.

Starting another previously locked thread is a sure way of getting a slap from ISD.

ISD does a poor enough job as it is. No need for pale imitations of pale imitations.

CCP really? Is this how you respond to the player base? You say your model is based upon player created content, but then to claim ownership of it? Like you have actually done something creative?

Enough already.

Do you really fail to see the difference between players creating content and players owning content?

It's CCP's sandbox. They let you play in it, use their shovel and bucket, kick sand at each other and write your name in the sand you are sitting on. Once you step out of the sandbox, you either leave the stuff behind or CCP won't let you play any more.

It's not that hard to grasp once you calm down and wipe up the rage spittle you and others have splattered all over this thread.

This issue came about due to someone trying to make money off the image (and directly marketing it as an EVE online product as well for that matter). Which is why they can't just slap some random agreement down since some people do have financial interests.

There's something else that isn't hard to grasp, and that's the fact that people here have legitimate concerns. But no, instead you've come here to dismiss us and act like a self-righteous ****.

Okay... then I think I'll take the advice of our legal team, who've both been in the field for decades and have consulted with specialist legal counsel on IP law.

What I believe myself and many others would really appreciate would be a specific example of what this derivative would actually look like. I doesn't have to be a definitive example, just one that could give us a rough idea of how much we can expect our logos to get changed. You can use the CCP logo to demonstrate.

When our art team have the space in their pipeline to create one, it'll be out there for everyone to see. There seems to be some huge conspiracy theory that we're hiding stuff from people. Honestly, there's nothing to hide yet, as I'm still waiting to see what this will look like.

You're right, I'm sorry, I've been unfair to you. I do realize that yes, you're the Community Manager, so you're the one who's been sent to speak to us about this. But why? As you said yourself, you're not a lawyer. Why haven't the lawyers themselves come to speak to us? CCP has the devs, designers, and artists talk to us. Why are the lawyers behind closed doors? Maybe I was shooting the messenger, but they sent the messenger.

You mistake that for complaint, I'm used to being the meatshield, that's my job, and I love it. Blink One part of my job is that I'm here to mediate where there's issues like this, and to try and work out a compromise.

The compromise is there, there's just not the bandwidth in development right now to get the art side of things taken care of, as out artists are already packed with work. There's also outstanding questions as to what we want to do with the display of alliance logos in the client going foward, which means until they're resolved, we can't nail down new technical requirements for art until a decision is made on that. A decision that's not mine to make, sadly - although I've already very vocally thrown my ideas into the hat. Big smile

Primary This Rifter wrote:
But your company's actions suggest that you view the presence of our logos as a liability, otherwise you wouldn't see the need to implement new policies. If that were the case, why would they leave the liabilities there for more than a year after you identified the possibility?

I haven't heard anything to suggest that point of view from our legal team, but we're not going to add nay new logos under the old policy as that then gives us more cleanup to do once we replace them all.

why does it actually matter in the long scheme of things? as much as i dont like the fact they state rights are ccp's when you submit is it really such an issue?

it becomes a delicate situation when people start making rl cash while also using someone elses company to market from
