Anyone who doesn't see the issues with legal use of copyrights should look at Disney for examples. They ruthlessly pursue any and all infringements on their copyrights. Doesn't matter if you are Mom&Pop, or Ebay.

CCP is doing what their LEGAL department is telling them to do.
Deal with it.

You clearly don't understand the discussion if you can't tell the difference between trademarks and copyrights, and if you think this is CCP's copyright that's at stake. It isn't.

Except their legal department is wrong.

Why is this being made so complicated? What?

I have removed some rule breaking posts and those quoting them. As always I let some edge cases stay.
Please people, keep it on topic and above all civil!

The Rules:
4. Personal attacks are prohibited.

Commonly known as flaming, personal attacks are posts that are designed to personally berate or insult another forum user. Posts of this nature are not beneficial to the community spirit that CCP promote and as such they will not be tolerated.

8. Use of profanity is prohibited.

The use of profanity is prohibited on the EVE Online forums. This includes the partial masking of letters using numbers or alternate symbols, and any attempts at bypassing the profanity filter.

27. Off-topic posting is prohibited.

Off-topic posting is permitted within reason, as sometimes a single comment may color or lighten the tone of discussion. However, excessive posting of off-topic remarks in an attempt to derail a thread may result in the thread being locked, or a forum warning being issued to the off-topic poster.

Thread reopened (Yes, really!)

Ok If I Copyrigh a Name and use it as a In game Corp at Eve Online. and wanted to use that Logo for sponsorship and advertising would I be able to use it?Would I have to tranfer ownership to CCP? It seems I cant according to the EULA.If Not Can it Be Ammended Yes . So How can we Proceed By doing That?

A name cannot be copyrighted. That would be registering a trademark.

Watermarks are stupid. They're going to look stupid. Furthermore they're completely unnecessary.

CCP does not need ownership of the alliance logos in the game. All they need is an irrevocable, unconditional license to use.
That's what we've been telling them from the very beginning, and it's something they've completely ignored.

If you actually cared, Steve, you or ANYONE ELSE in attendance would have mentioned this license to use, but nobody did. I'm completely underwhelmed by your handling of this situation.

So the holdup is not technical. Again, instead of regurgitating what they told you, dig a little bit deeper. The holdup is organizational culture and nothing more. This can be resolved now without any changes to the game code.

No matter what happens you will not be happy. Get over it. This is the way CCP wants to run it, don't like it dont sub your account. Vote with your money cuz your mouth ain't doing the job.

If the logos end up as CCP property, I'll just keep on keeping on.

If they end up becoming player owned, I'll have little bee t-shirts on eBay faster than the Mittani can yell lawsuit.

You seem to be under this mistaken impression that CCP must cater to you. CCP does not have to accept your logo. If they do this is how they are going to do it.

You forget that CCP is first and foremost a profit making company that operates a cross several nations. Their legal team told thin that if they were to accept player made logos this is how they need to do it to protect themselves. No matter how much you try to lawyer it and how much ranting you do. CCP says this is the way it will be done.

You now have three options

1. Keep your account and not submit your logo.
2. Keep your account and accept they way it is and submit your logo
3. Unsub in protest

Q: What's the difference between an accountant and a lawyer?
A: Accountants know they're boring.

As an accountant, I second this.

A housewife an accountant and a lawyer were asked how much is 2+2

The housewife says 4

The accountant says its ether 3 or 4. Let's run the numbers on my spreadsheet.

The lawyer pulls the drapes, dims the lights and asks in a hush tone "what number do you want it to be?

Shouldn't it just be something like 'By submitting your alliance logo to CCP for approval, you give full legal rights to use it however they want.'? The creator is the owner and CCP has rights to approve/disapprove and use it how they want in their videos and what not.

Sounds like a pretty typical EULA kind of thing. Not sure why CCP had to go all legal on alliance logos then not say anything for a year.

Not today spaghetti.
