The important question is: "Has there been inflation vs plex?" As in, can a buying a plex with RL cash = xx amount of ships etc etc

CCP aims for a +- 1% inflation / (deflation).

Last analysis CCP showed us, the economy was experiencing slight deflation.

Nah there's no inflation. I don't remember buying a Dominix for 65M and a Raven for 110M and I especially don't remember trit at < 3 isk/unit.

that was more of a balancing decision than inflation issue. with tiericide CCP made it so all BS cost roughly the same to make, similar things happened to frigs and cruisers too. Although I do think a bit of inflation in the mineral market happened at some point.

a bit?

certain items in mineral have seen a massive inflation since 2004-7 period. Since 2009 though, fairly steady. This though was countered by a massive deflation in other elements such Zyd and Mega which have more than halved since prices back then. In each 'period' though, they're more or less flat. As a result, true inflation hasn't happened.

From the literature Eve's player driven economy is supposed to reflect a real life economy, as even some universities I have read incorporate it in some economic courses they run. So who controls the Isk money supply, as there are no banks in Eve creating money out of thin air as they do in real life?

Simple answer is that it doesn't, that is hype.

It is a very elaborate closed market which revolves almost entirely around space ships destroying each other to make more space ships destroy each other to get the resources so more space ships can destroy each other.

They had to use NPC buy order to prop up Trit at 1 isk when the game launched.

Given Trit is 6 based on an initial npc market value of 1, I would note that there has been significant inflation.

If there hasn't been inflation, how come almost everything costs far more than they did originally?

Given that a player running Level 4 missions can afford a Supercarrier in only a few months, a ship that when created by CCP could only be afforded by pooling entire alliances worth of effort, then yes, there has been significant and obvious inflation.

Wormholes caused inflation. Incursions caused inflation. Complexes caused inflation. At each introduction of a new "end game" level of NPC income, inflation ripples down through prices.

As a player that ran Level 4 missions in 2006 to save up for Capital BPOs, and now again in 2014, I can tell you I am earning more isk more easily now than I was when I quit back then - and I'm flying the same ship and have almost the same skill points due to having been out of the game.

And Level 4 missions are tiny compared to nullsec or wormhole income.

EDIT:

Regarding minerals also - utter bollocks.

I built Freighters in 2009. They cost me around 700-800m in minerals. The same freighter from the same BPOs with the same mineral requirements in 2014 costs around 1.1-1.2bn in minerals to build. That is inflated.
