So people with slower computers can have an even slower internet experience than they already have? Sure, why the hell not. It would be nice if you could toggle flash on or off in this case.

On the other hand, flash is a proprietary plug-in, so it might add to the cost of eve due to adobe demanding money for its use.

If I had my way. I would have HTML5 bowser 1st before FLASH support. With HTML5 bowsers, You can have videos with out flash.

I'd avoid flash due to the many exploits it has, and many new 0days that keep popping all the time.

Google "youtube html5". They are actually having tests to bring html5 to youtube and users can use it if they want to.

It is my understanding that YouTube does already support HTML5 on most of there videos. But I do remeber seen or hearing a report that Google had droped there on going tests of HTML5. So it's a bit all up in the air. But for now. Having the Eve in game browser with HTML5 would not be a bad thing.

Got a security update for flash recently? Yes? I think that's a good reason to not to include something like that in the game.

If I remember the dev blogs from the time period correctly (I can't be arsed to go find them), they left out Flash support on purpose due to the exploits available in Flash.

Until that changes, I doubt CCP will change their stance on it.

De'Veldrin's Corollary (to Malcanis' Law): Any idea that seeks to limit the ability of a large nullsec bloc to do something in the name of allowing more small groups into sov null will inevitably make it that much harder for small groups to enter sov null.

Step 1. Run Eve in windowed mode.
Step 2. Open favorite flash compatible browser.
Step 3. Watch flash video.

Optional step. Buy more monitors (I have 3 on this computer) open Eve in 1, browser in 2 and Pyfa in 3.

How about no? To quote Steve Jobs:"If it crashes, it is mostly flash."
Though html 5 video support would be nice. WebM Codec.

Oh wow, what a great idea. Can we buy extra monitors with ISK? Please remember, Not everybody has deep pockets to buy extra hardware or even have space on the desk the add such things.

"optional"......

Running the game in windowed mode stabilizes the alt+tab because windows treats it differently with the paging functions I believe. Doesn't affect the graphics and lets you multi task better. Hell go crazy and copy the windows style as a theme for your browser.

Plugin support (Flash, Java, and whatever else) is disabled in the IGB not because of proprietary reasons, but for lag reasons. It is already processing-expensive for CCP to render the browser in a 3D environment, adding animated flash on top of that would cause massive lag on most computers. See: the prevalence of obnoxious Flash ads on every website ever.

So far as HTML5: Eve uses the Chromium browser, actually the same engine that runs in the backend of Google Chrome. I think it is an older version than the one the current Chrome runs on top of, so there is support for HTML5 styling, canvasses (I tested it), and CSS3, but not for the audio and video elements. I do not believe that audio and video will be supported in the future, either, for the aforementioned lag problems.

Toggle-able plugin support would be nice, but it would be a lot of work from CCP for little gain -- only those with powerful computers would be able to use the future seamlessly. The best hope is further evolution in computer technology, and the global adoption of HTML5 over Flash for audio/video.

Until then, here, have a $30 working used monitor.

Edited: for great links. Also note, that is not my ebay offer, I just did 5 minutes of searching and that was the absolute cheapest working flatscreen monitor I could find.

i use 6 monitors and i like to play eve online on full screen. 1 screen or windows mode use only 1 gpu (because of the stupid drivers) now if i play in windows mode its got laggy if i do that. the 2xhd5970 are not usefull in windows mode....... No short answer we need flash support in eve online...

Mother of all necro...

Read the post just above yours. Cost analysis of enabling Flash in Eve makes it not worth the effort.

CCP stated in the past that the reason there is no Flash support is for security reasons. Putting in Flash support for the in game browser opens all sorts of holes for poeple to take advantage of.

And wow...really is a necro post...

it WOULD be cool to be able to play youtube and flash in eve's browser, that way you could keep the game fullscreen and not lose the immersion as you take a looooooong time mining, salvaging, ratting, etc....its be like an onboard comp on the bridge of ur ship, and ur cruisin the net whilst you merk....its be an Outlaw Star kinda chill :-)

They left Flash on purpose due to licensing fees...Lol

Don't kid yourself. The Eve browser is a joke when it comes to security, it's just no one deemed it worthy of hacking.
