battle cam - a quick scan of each pvp situation you warp into

a quick scan of each pvp situation you warp into, through the magic of camera angles you can have a quick understanding of the situation, such as who is burning toward you max speed or who is kiting away with his long range weapons etc.

a "one button to view them all". each time you warp yourself into a new pvp situation, you click the battle cam button and you can quickly see in what direction all the chess pieces are moving.

example:
- object A. a frig pilot sitting 0km at the gate, he instantly burns toward you when he sees you (there is a very specific cam angle and camera effect associated with somebody burning toward you)

- object B. a cruiser pilot sitting 20km off the gate, he is starting to align toward a station he pre-overheats his guns in anticipation. (there is a very specific camera angle and camera movement associated with somebody kiting away from you + when somebody puts his guns on overheat in anticipation, the camera will pick that up)

how long does it take over the camera?
How do you deal with massive numbers on grid?
How do you decide what is and isn't part of the engagement in highsec?

The view you are looking for is called tactical I believe :D and why should you know who is overheating in preparation?

dont know, maybe if you click 5-10 objects in space your sensors will pick up on certain things, but thats just one potential solution to minor details.

the main thing is that there is a story that can be told with proper camera work, its the universal language, probably worth overcoming a few obsticles

First, congrats on posting an idea that I have never actually seen anyone post before in F&I.

Unfortunately, that reason is because nobody would want it, or at least so few people that it wouldn't justify the addition.

Rendering multiple views at once, from multiple angles, from multiple distances, is liable to place a great degree of strain on either your computer or the server, depending on how it's implemented.

Being able to understand the relative positions and distances between ships based off your screen and overview is an important part of PvP. It's a talent you pick up over time as you PvP, and an important part of an FC's capabilities.

Adding in a multiple display from different angles would serve as an inadequate and ineffective crutch compared to just learning to judge by yourself, and promote bad habits in a budding FC or PvP'r.

doesnt necessarily have to be multiple angles, its more like one fluid movement that paints you a quick picture of all the elements involved in that specific pvp scenario that you warped into

Or you could do what I do, FRAPS it. Watch later, take the cool footage and make a video (I'm still collecting footage..) and press pause to see what going on.

Unfortunately this just sounds like a recipe for vomit. Also, there's enough information on the screen as-is.

A professional astro-bastard was not available so they sent me.

I had a good chuckle from this. I imaged EVE as a movie and Quentin Tarantino directed it.

tactical display and your overview don't already give you all that information?

so it takes over the camra for 3 seconds to show you what's going on at which point you've been locked and pointed and that frigate has called in friends who also overheat thier guns to take the camra over for another couple of seconds and when the camra returns to your ship it is just in time for the cinematic explosion of your hull

1. you can cancel the 3 second camera overview of the battlefield
2. you can still see and react to what is happening on the overview during the 3 second camera
3. you can align away or burn away from enemies during those 3 seconds thanks to the overview still appearing
4. its up to you to decide the best/safest timing for the "one button to view them all"

All the information you need is already there, lrn2eve. We don't need another nausea inducing camera mechanic like jumping and camera tracking.

So like 1 to 2 second camera effect per ship?

For 500 ppl? 1000? soooo like 10 seconds per ship in 20% tidi * 500 ships, let's say 600 for the ease of calculation... yeah, sure, I got 1:40 hours to watch stuff when i join a fleet battle... Do you though?

I'm for all kinds of visual indicators though, like plotted vectors indicating speed and heading, shooting ranges of allies and stuff like that...
