On a forum where I have yet to discover a way to set the timezone for myself I kind of like this better. In EVE I have no problem working with EVE time. On a forum it's a different story.

Despite CCP's constant desire to be different from everyone else, the obvious solution would seem to be a system in which users could set the time zone of their choice.

Y'know - like 99.999999999% of the rest of the Internet.

A quick look at this forum software's feature page reveals that enabling this would quite litteraly be a matter of flipping a switch. And maybe editing the settings page a bit. Seriously though, I have no clue why they can't just enable timezones. I don't mind the relative time either, but if it's already available why not turn it on?

Keeping everyone's head in the same time zone is keeping their head in EVE.

If you don't live in EVE time, you're wrong.

Because this is a better system.

It's not a technical limitation that you can't do it, it's a deliberate design decision.

Hover over the relative time and you get a tooltip with the absolute time.

Yes we know that and it's a ridiculous way to do it.

The actual time should be the default with the ultra-vague "about x minutes/hours/days ago" in the tooltip.

Have you noticed that the actual time is displayed when you click 'quote'? That alone shows that they understand its relevance and yet choose to ignore it for general use just because of a silly fashion used by frivolous social media sites.

Clearly your subjective opinion on the display of relative vs. absolute time is shared by all.

Why can't we have the actual timestamp of the posts displayed by default and the _____ minutes/hours/days ago displayed in the tooltip? Same information as we have now, just displayed differently.

I'll discuss it with the team tomorrow. I just really like timeago since it gives me rough time when a post was made, instead of having to look at numbers and figuring it out :) Is there any particular reason why people dislike timeago? Twitter, Facebook and many popular sites use it today.

What I'd like to know is why the Eve Online Community wasn't consulted first before this timestamp change? Just because you like it doesn't mean the Eve Online Community will like it, which has pretty much been proven with multiple replies posted in this thread.

Just a little heads up, most players here don't want a rough idea or estimate of when something happened, we want to know exact details, time and date. As someone else already pointed out about the timeago - it's very misleading and doesn't equate into the same meaning for everyone. Hell, 'a month ago' could be 28 days, 30 days or 32 days. That's a 4 day difference which gets larger as more time passes.

Just because Twitter, Facebook and some other sites use it doesn't mean Eve should use it. That's what made Eve Online great, it was different from all the other sites. Gotta say reading the 'Timeago' stamp seems like CCP is regarding the player base as children. Like when a child asks 'when' and the parents reply 'soon' or 'in a while'.

Bottom line - the 'Timeago' stamp is insulting and demeaning to the intellect of the player base.

Well said.

Here's one more suggestion, There's a lot of space between the 'timeago' and 'number of likes' fields so how about putting them both there.

Mind you if CCP really is going away from the fixed width forums this might not be possible. Then I (again) suggest giving the players the ability the make the choice between time formats.

Wow.

You lot really are full of yourselves, aren't you? In what game have you EVER had input on the timestamps on the game forums? Why would you think CCP had to check with you before they changed the way they worked?

Because they are already putting both there. Showing them side by side at the same time would look too cluttered, not to mention your experience of "there's a lot of space" doesn't necessarily hold up for people using different window resolutions and text scaling.

You already have what you want, you're just asking for it to be made so you don't have to move your mouse to see it. That's pretty lazy.

Small suggestion / complaint Big smile

In the old notifications window clicking someone's name took you to their eve gate page. Now it just routes to the post. So when I see "XXXX liked your post", I usually think, "Great! ....who is XXXX?" Would like to see something similar to the old system where you can click their name OR click the post instead of just the latter.

Apologies if already addressed in the thread. (TLDR!)

Some 'cosmetic' things:

- in the top bar the notifications like "you have a message" or "someone liked your post" and "someone post in your thread"
used to be in the "forum orange" until you hover over the bar or click

- the bar uses a very "dark grey" #0d0d0d I believe it is. Please use #FFFFFF or commenly know as white or a "brighter grey" intstead Smile

- the "up there" arrow used to be on the left

- the forum threads you were clicking on used to get marked as "read" (the orange star indicating that some posted disappeared) opening them in a new tab

Can we please have long names of threads, if you are not online for 2 days or more, you have a lot of double threads, the only way to find out atm is to open all unread threads and close doubles. Wouldn't it be nice that you see the whole topic so you wouldn't have to open the doubles anyway ;)?

Your reply should actually be reported for flaming with intent to incite rage - as per forum rules.

Seems to me you haven't been playing this game very long. CCP use to consult with the playerbase before making changes, very much so until Incarna which caused the Summer Of Rage. Since then CCP has just gotten more and more distant from the core aspect of this game, making changes because it sounded good then later having to revert it because in actuality it wasn't good at all.

Anyway, in case you don't know this, most players in this game want specific details, not generalized info that's easily misinterpreted by everyone.

Main problem with the timestamp is it's been dumbed down and presented as basic generalized info, it's insulting and demeaning towards the community's intellect. In real life when someone asks the question 'when', they expect an explicit answer, not a generalization.

But if you really need a reason why it should be changed back, having to hover the mouse over the Timeago stamp to view the actual date and time prohibits the ability to copy and paste that info when needed. Not to mention CCP having to write and install extra code in order for players to view the actual time and date is just another example of incompetent programing that's been turning this game into a memory hog, constantly eating more and more Hard Drive space with each little patch that's being done every couple of days.

I'm sorry but this isn't 'Hello Kitty'. This is Eve Online, a futuristic science fiction space game about spaceships, computers, clones, etc. If people can't handle an exact display of time listed in these forums because it requires a little bit of brain work, then they definitely won't be able to handle this game.

Have you made the signature character limit smaller? My signature used to fit with the linking code, now when I try to link to my public roams forum in my signature, it does this weird footnotey thing [1], places the link below the signature, and removes the descriptive text for the link because I've run out of characters. Pretty certain we used to be limited to 500 characters in our signature, now it seems like it's limited to 250. My signature is 245 characters (if I remember right), but with the weird linking code, it exceeds it.

Any chance you can up the character limit for signatures, and/or not count formatting/linking code in the limit?

Thanks in advance!

The character limit was decreased by half, as the Markdown code takes significantly less characters for styling than BBCode, or 4 characters instead of 12 to form a link. If the markdown helper is taking up too many characters for your taste, please try the following format.

So? why reduce it? I assume people had 250 char signatures that didnt contained any url's, so now they will get truncated?

Forum profiles are now available on SISI. Profiles show character's date of birth, last 20 posts, etc.

Feel free to try out on SISI: https://forums.testeveonline.com/
Here's my profile: https://forums.testeveonline.com/profile/ccp%20rarara

We also removed timeago on posts, however timeago is now shown when hovering the mouse over timestamps.

This will be deployed tomorrow if everything goes as planned.
