Ship (Capital, Limited Edition) VIN Numbers

What if Capital ships, or Limited Edition ships had VIN numbers. That way if you had one and traded it, you could essentially "Track" that specific ship. Almost like a trading card of sort. Every one of those ships gets a unique serial number that you can identify it with.

Some things you may be able to track. Some of these will be controversial, and I understand that.

- Kills with that ship (even if it's just a number, or ship type)
- If that ship died
- How many times it's been traded about
- Days since birth

I'm open to suggestions on what it could track.

What do you guys think? Yay's, Nay's, ect...

I would love to see this for limited number ships (tourney ships, plex for good, other event ships) but it could get quickly cumbersome if this was implemented for ships that players can build.

I agree with that. Maybe limiting it to Supercaps and Limited Edition? Or even just Limited Edition ships. I understand it'd get a bit tough and unnecessary with standard ships of the like. Who wants to track their Vexor that they built in a batch of 50?

Yeah, I strongly dislike the idea for standard supers, as I know people who (claim) to have an industrial arm set up that turns out an average of a super every other day. Now, revenants and any other rare faction capitals that may be intorduced would be a different story, as would the limited edition (but not ones where they are handed out to everyone) ships.

This would be nice to see implemented. For Limited edition ships and the like....like the ones that are rare...or simply cost Billions of ISK because of their specialty before they become listed on the endangered species list.

I can understand the supers not getting them. I guess there is a decent amount in game. More so maybe the Revenant? That one should fall under the "limited" category.

Maybe we could also apply a decal on the side with "ticks" for every kill...

I would love this and a few other changes that let ships keep data! But tell me how it works when the ships is repackaged and turned into nothing but a number indicating what kind of ship is owned....

Never enter your PIN Number into an ATM Machine. You might get the HIV Virus.

That said, I'm with the others who point out that repackaging poses a problem. Also, what about already-existing ships? How do you decide which one gets which number? I suppose the same question could be asked about yet-to-exist ships.

Ah. Existing ships ID numbers pose a possible fuss. I guess the guy that gets number "3" instead of number "1" might start calling that it's unfair. At that point, All is fair in Eve and war.

But that might be something to look at. I mean assigning a number to a pre-existing ship is easy enough, just deciding which one gets what number causes an issue.

Repackaging... doesn't necessarily have to get rid of the number. It's still techincally the same ship. Just packaged up and reassembled. Not rebuilt entirely.

Maybe in magic RP land but a repackaged ship is just a repackaged ship, hence the problem. It would be an absolute ballache to go back and change things to allow this, at which point you may aswell roll it out for every ship in the game.

It would be cool as vanity features go but given how ship skins were implemented I wouldn't hold your breath.

Not a bad idea but every ship would basically be a ship of its own with the way the ship system works
That's why you can't just apply a ship paint but yet build a new ship to have a painted ship

Pretty sure every unstacked item in the game already has a unique itemID. Could use that if CCP were willing to expose it.

I would love to see something like this implemented. This would pave the way for stamping a "Made by Gadget" onto all my wares.

Sadly, because of the repackaging situation, this isn't currently possible, and would require the whole groundwork to be relaid. Maybe in 10 or so years.

Still... it's heavily on my someday-in-the-future-wish-list.
