Hi all,

been running L4's in a RNI, however, i've made the decision that, long term, I want to run incursions.
As missile fleets aren't exactly common in incursions, I need to start going down the gun training line.
Now, on to the point, i'm going to be getting a Mach to run misssions in, and a nightmare to run incursions in, however, I'll need to get used to using guns, but dont want to drop my isk/hour.
So is a Rokh any use in L4's? I perfer sniping fits, but up close and personnel is fine as well. Any recomendations for fits? should I stay in my RNI until I can run a Mach? what skills would be 'passable' and 'ideal' to fly a rokh, mach and nightmare in PVE?

Cheers

don't fly a rokh in missions, it's terrible. train for nightmare first. you don't need amarr battleship 5 and you can fit faction tachs (they are almost as good as T2 in contrast to other faction weapons).

edit: here is a decent nightmare mission fit. it's a little blingy but will work very well in any lvl4. with the afterburner bonus, you cna actually speed tank some battleship dps, but in most missions, you won't have to.

fitting a Drone Link Augmentor on a nightmare is a sin Cry

I'd say either pick the mach or the nightmare and get good with it first and then feel free to train the other ship. Either one can run missions pretty well, and get in incursion fleets.

If you are going to buy bling I'd say go with faction heatsinks as they will be useful for other fits, the faction guns you will either need to sell later or have them rot in a hangar somewhere for eternity. Plus the stats with Faction heat sinks are slight better. DPS with faction HS and m4 guns: 979. with t2 HS and Faction Tachs 958

This is my fit. Tank is almost irrelevant as it has so much dps. if you want to go with a more perma tank style setup I'd suggest picking up a cheap Pithum c-type medium booster. Also a Republic fleet 100mn AB is pretty cheap and uses less cap than a t2 AB, plus you go faster.

ps, don't group your guns.

I wouldn't fly with the faction guns. The meta 4 guns will do you fine until you can get the T2 guns. Don't use the faction guns, you are just putting a big "Gank Me" sign on your faction ship.

hardly, faction guns are pretty cheap (cheaper than faction damage mods). however if you put a bunch of other shiny stuff on as well, then you start yelling "gank me"

~300m in shiny is where I'd fit if I was paranoid about a gank. and that is about where faction guns or damage mods puts you.
~400m in shiny is a reasonably safe amount, which gets: Faction damage mods, RF ab, and a pith booster.
~500m, still reasonably safe as long as you pay attention. make sure your hardeners are always on, don't sit at 0 on warp ins, fit a DC, don't visit 0.5s, and/or don't run in a big hub.

Combine a few of the above and you can fit rather shiny ships.

However start adding things like faction invulns, or gist boosters, and gankability can easily jumped over the threshold in one mod. and you probably aren't adding much efficiency.

Why don't you stick with the RNI for missions while training guns?

the main reason why i prefer faction guns is cap efficiency. since you don't need T2 ammo and only 4 relatively cheap turrets, there is no good reason not to save 25% cap, especially if it allows you to go with a lazy permatank.

i do agree that a damage control is a nice option for the nightmare, unlike most other mission fits.

I should buy an Ishtar.

Incursion groups will have a list of preferred fittings. Best to check with them.

meta 4 guns are very close to the same cap use as faction. T2 vs Faction guns, the difference is bigger, but since tachs got their cap use reduced a while back, I'm really indifferent to cap use and take damage 10/10 times. t2 get an 8% damage bonus from beam spec 4 (personally all my characters have it at 5) and another 5% (or something like that?) from faction heat sinks for the same cost.
