Can we turn off the new jump animation?

To stop being a niche game, it would have to go away from the component making ti a niche game and that would basically mean going away from the core foundation on what the game is built... It's not details like the jump animation that cause it to be a niche game.

There is a niche with few players, and niche with slightly more. I am pretty sure that Eve Online would have more players than today if most of the small details and bad choices wasn't still there.

Some of the recent graphical changes are pretty bad. Ships had been redesigned for exemple, good thing but if you play at low quality, they are so ugly that it just make me want to puke. Before this redesign, it was decent at low quality. How motivate a player with a low-end computer to stay in this game with that ? Is it so hard to ask the graphics division to do something about it ?

There is also the lack of options or the removal of some, like the "Sun is occluded by ships" who was removed for no reasons and even no mention in any patch notes... There is no sense to add an option to disable this cursed camera shake (that I use since nearly day one), but remove or not add for others annoyances who have an impact too. At the other end, the addition of so many sound options was a great idea and now I play with the sound on (disabled since the start...). Exit the "Eve has sound?"...

The lack of translations (2014 and still only 4 -nearly 5- languages ? how much players had EVE missed because of that ?), etc... I am sure that there would be more players today if the small details was corrected. In a way, the recent decision of CCP to release an addon each month sounds like a desesperate attempt to correct everything before the arrival of the competitors. And I do hope that they will success, Eve deserves it. It is just that CCP don't deserve Eve...

Removing obsolete signature... You just lost time to read that =)

While the jump animation is no longer "new", it is still supremely annoying.

And I still don't understand why almost every other effect in game is customizable, except this.

Ship explosions, missile effects, turrets, even whether ships occlude the sun. Station environments. Shaders.

But no, no, you cannot turn off the awful shaky grey tunnel.

Well, I am down to one account from a peak of 5, and this is at least in part because of the tunnel thing, and the dev response to it. And to those that post here saying that the animation is fine - good for you. We don't want to take it away from you. Just give the people who don't like it a checkbox to turn it off. It is not hard to do, really.

Because if you code in a box to check, that makes everything magically work... super easy.

I hardly even notice the tunnel effect except when I'm jumping into a system under tidi. Otherwise its the time between the client telling the server to update the system I'm in and the server acknowledging the update.

What's really awesome is when it lags out then faction police kill you while you're jumping Big smile

For something that is apparently hard coded and final, at times my ancient Nvidia graphic card says otherwise.

I have had, and it seems to slowly increase in number over the months, where I will line up to shoot down the tunnel. Then all I get rendered is the background star pattern of the next system I am jumping towards. The tunnels sounds continue to play, but there are no visual swirling patterns, tunnels, or the abrupt stop at the end. The game continues to function and all other graphic features will play normally. Yes, further tunnel jumps return to "normal", but I still get that ~bonus~ without issue.

Nice... Maybe you're card can't handle the animation so it just shows stars... I wonder if there's a way to disable this through the card software on newer cards... Maybe turn down a setting.

[begin pseudocode]

if (tunnel_checkbox == checked) {
show_awful_animation();
} else {
show_black_screen();
}

[end pseudocode]

There is no programming-related reason whatsoever this code cannot be incorporated. None. And yes, I am a software developer, and I am fluent in both Python and C.

The real reason why the option is not there is "because immersion". That much has been admitted by the devs in this very thread.

I am not really interested in repeating all the arguments for the checkbox that have been brought up on 96 pages of this threadnaught. What really amazes me, though, is the existence of people like Ranger.
Why even bother to post here if you like the jump animation? Nobody is trying to disable it in your EVE client...

Sometimes I jump gates with star map open, just to get this effect off for a while.

Walk into the club like "What up? I got a big cockpit!"

I hate the jump animation.

its ugly, glitchy and gets really annoying after your first 5 jumps.

But its cool, when everybody switches to star citizen, nobody will see the jump animation anymore.. so the problem will be solved. :/

I did notice when I was in like tidi 20 and did a jump, it actually looked kinda nice.

Maybe slowing it down would be an option.

For the rest, if you bring up the map or market window, something to hide it, that helps.

I use map now in order not to get a headache after 5 jumps.
Would be nice to have the ability to just turn off and use no animation at all ( as it was before). This is simple client side change with no legacy python code involved.

pff ok some one needs to say it. Stop bumping old threats.. Its just stupid. And no the are not going to change it. Perhaps if you made more alts and post here then the will perhaps do it. Of course not!

I have to admit when I got back into playing this game a few months ago I thought it looked good. But it does get old after watching the animation 30 or more times during long hauls. And it seems to take longer to travel now too. Could just be me though.

What's wrong with the jump animation? I prefer it to those damnable >100 Au warps in something big. Nothing says "Please kill me it hurts to live" like fleetwarping with a battleship gang in a crow.

Post with your NPC alt main and not your main main alt!

Nobody suggests to entirely remove it from the client. Just to have the option to turn it off.
Both parties will be satisfied.

Simple as that.

For some wired reason client have ability to turn off the gun fire animation but not jump. vOv

My first reaction when I saw the Fanfest presentation was: "Cool!"
Then it turned out to be cheesy in the long run. Expecially now that warping in a frigate takes less time and you're experiencing the tunnel more often.
Probably I will get used to it... but I remember a time when EVE was cool and slick. Graphics were not so rich, but consistent and not cheesy at all.
Instead of the current jump tunnel, I would prefer something like white noise on screen, like "antenna is unplugged", or similar. I know that it is too easy to do, but hey, I'm a simple man.
