Thank you Sib but, that's really not what I'm asking for. I don't live a life of misery, I live one of misunderstanding. Sympathy is not what I'm after. People misunderstand me, the real me, not the me I pretend to be, which I have to do to avoid the misunderstandings. I want to live in a world where I can be myself because 'autism' doesn't make you a social pariah. People like me have it hard enough being social as it is without feeling like nobody wants us around to begin with.

Hugs are nice but.... friends are better.

I've always thought that the reason people discriminate and shun those with neural disorders and the like is due to the fear of the unknown. Most take the coherence of the mind for granted, relying on it to define their very reality and anything that suggests it might not be a flawless or homogeneous instrument, or might not work in the same way as others, strikes no little amount of fear in them. With any luck advances in neuroscience will help to ease these fears over time, and I think that's what will be the key to moving towards a world where things like autism aren't a cause for discrimination.

I'll tell you this much. As yet, the science has found no cure for autism.

But if there was one, I wouldn't take it.

I just see this as fueling an innate issue's fire. smother the fire by choking out its hype supply. as ISD stated, the tenets of this coummunity's rules have stood before this debacle. and they will stand long after it has passed.

It's not fear of the unknown. it's the perceived differences in behaviour that sets me apart from you. If my neurological makeup was the dominant majority, I'd be the one making fun of you for being a weirdo. I understand the way you work very well, because I've had to learn. On the other hand, you don't have to do the same for me, because I'm a minority. Segregation is basic human nature. Thing is, nobody owes me anything, and if someone doesn't want to talk to me, it's their problem, not mine. You're not going to see me complaining, because you know what? Everybody has issues they have to deal with. I'm equipped well enough to deal with mine, not everybody is so fortunate.
