Question about the Buddy Program and claiming rewards

Ok, I just successfully went all the way with a fellow EvE noob using the buddy program. I sent the other new player a 21 day free trial. That person accepted it, and just recently upgraded their account.

When I went to collect my reward, I discovered I can choose from one of these three options:

"Catalyst Collection"................."30 days playing time" .................or 1 PLEX

So here are my questions:

1. Doesn't PLEX stand for Pilot License Extension? If so, what's the difference between option#2 and option#3?

2. What is "Catalyst Collection"? Does anyone know where I can read more about it?

I'm just trying to use my head before making up my mind on which reward I should choose.

Simple

Catalyst Collection = Bunch of catalysts, in different paintjobs.

30 days play time = 30 days added to your account time.

PLEX = 1 PLEX in game, which can be used to:

A. Add 30 days of game time
B. Sold for ISK
C. Used for character transfer
D. Used for resculpt
E. Used for NES shop stuff.

So, no 30 days of game time =/= PLEX as you can do way more with a PLEX then just add game time.

BTW, those catalysts currently sell for 141 million ISK in Jita. (All together.)
Even if you want those, it's better to chose a PLEX, sell it and buy the catalysts. You'll have 600 million ISK over.

Historical note: when they introduced the deal, those catalysts, especially the Quafe Catalyst, were worth a lot more and a PLEX less, so it was an OK-ish choice. But there aren't that many serious ship collectors in EVE and too many people chose the catalyst package with the intent to sell them, crashing the market and making a PLEX the clear choice.

Now (taken this is your main and not an alt), make an alt and place 750 million on that alt and for the next year or so, don't touch it.

32.000.000 is more then enough for a new player to live for a while (ships, mods, skillbooks).

Just because you have a lot of money doesn't mean you have a high income stream. Adjust your ships etc. on the money you can actually make while playing, not on burst incomes (unless burst income is your sustainable income. I know plenty of players - usually older - that live of selling PLEX for ISK every now and then).
