one one hand, quotes like this obfuscate the reality of realities of social power imbalances between races, but on the other hand this is phrased too perfectly to say anything against. everything about this is too good

Silly fact of the day: "coconut" comes from the portuguese word "coco" which means "head", as that's what the coconut fruit ressembled to the first Portuguese who saw them.

Yes, because Sarkeesian is such a white name. She's ethnically Armenian. That's Middle-Eastern. You can tell just from looking at her she's not white.

Prolly think Italians are white, too, no?

wait, armenians aren't considered white? my dad never seemed to have a problem passing as a white guy in america, but i'll give her the benefit of the doubt and rescind my comment about her being a white lady.

i can't really comment on how white italians are considered because i'm not even the slightest bit italian, but i was under the impression that people of mediterranean and irish descent are generally classed as white in most pleas in america. then again, lots of subsets of "white" people are often not considered white enough by certain people. i'm sure someone out there would freak out about me being a filthy slav/armenian mutt

and she might not even be hetero, for all i know. but i feel like she'd make a point of it if she wasn't

Most people of Mediterranean descent don't consider themselves white. Especially not in the US, considering that Italians were once the most hated ethnicity in the country (even moreso than blacks, for a good half a century or more)... ESPECIALLY considering that to this day, it's still socially acceptable to make racist comments and stereotypes about my people.
Mediterranean includes Greeks, Spaniards, Turks, Portuguese, Monocans, and a few Middle-East ethnicities. Armenians are technically included in that.
Italians actually have more physically in common with Arabs and Persians than any white people, not to mention Italian culture is in complete odds with other European nationalities. We really should be legitimized as a separate racial category.

As for your other post, no, I didn't give her money. But I agree with most of the things she says. I'm not sure what that "subscription to Jezebel" comment is meant to do to me. Or is that some kind of stealth "gay" joke? Cuz, if so, you can stow that. I freely admit I'm not entirely straight.

mm, okay, i see. people of mediterranean descent aren't usually as addressed in mainstream discourse about racial prejudice, so i'm pretty ignorant about how they fit into the social hierarchy

jezebel is an internet journalism site that used to have lots of painfully liberal feminist articles(liberal as opposed to radical, not as opposed to conservative). i think they might have actually uncritically published an article about how giving oral sex to men was feminist. then again, i haven't really looked at it since middle school so they might have changed. also my stealth gay jokes are always coated with a heavy veneer of hypocrisy and self-loathing

there's nothing technically wrong with anything anita says. it's just all been said before, multiple times, by other people who were not demanding money to say things. of course, none of that excuses the reaction she's getting from gross gamebros

(my jezebel joke was going to be an autostraddle joke but i think they published an interview with one of my favorite game devs once so i felt kind of bad about it. and some of the articles are not so bad, if you don't mind them using the word qu**er constantly)

No... no, it's not really like that. I'm not seeing him as an enemy. I just didn't fully like a few of the things he said. But, we're cool now.

Yes.... BTW, I am full-on tear extracting. I hate those basement dwelling derpists.
It's usually not entirely okay to use the "I have daughters" line as a justification why a man should be agreeing with feminism, but in this case, I feel I should mention it.... my oldest daughter likes "boy" games. She likes comic books. She likes cars. I'll be damned if I see her treated the way I see my female friends who are also into those things treated. I stand up for them, too.
I will say that I am no feminist. You don't need to be a feminist to agree with most of the things feminism says... the notion that women are people.
Kind of like how I don't call myself "colorblind" anymore, when it comes to race. I respect other cultures.... "whitewashing" is just as bad as actually being racist.

Try Nomex, instead..... it's only a matter of time before the cishet neckbeards come with pitchforks and torches. For I have betrayed my gender and must be purified by pain.

I'm also curious to see if someone will manage to suck me in. but I doubt it. I don't know much about the situation, and only have a vague grasp of the who/what/where/why/when

...which pretty much means it's a matter of time, and i'm just playing ibtl chicken.

seeing a video game dad use words like "cishet" and "whitewashing" is so surreal... but kind of cool, really. do you mind if i ask why you don't call yourself a feminist? it seems like dudes calling themselves feminists is generally encouraged within most liberal activist circles

I don't take internet social justice warriors seriously. Any response to their words usually ends with them abusing their critics with slurs like neckbeard, virgin, basement dweller, gross nerd, loser, and insults against sexual orientations or races as though they are relevant to anything, and invocations to drink bleach or kill yourself.
I don't see how anything valuable can live under such a pile of rubbish.

Just awesome guys. Hey, there's a building on fire there! Let's kill the fire with gasoline and gunpowder!

Just when I expected people would actually calm down and talk in a more rational manner, somebody fanned the flames even more.

eh, actually I find that odd, because "coconut" translated to portuguese is "coco". "Head" translated in portuguese is "cabeça".

the name we gave to the coconut is actually related to mythology

What is considered white in the USA is not the same as in Europe.

Which is exactly what happens with the Sarkeesian/whatshername issue, which may be a hot topic in the USA, but is pure bullshit in Europe.

Pretty much.
Nevertheless, the issues raised are valid ones. The way these issues are propped up however, it hints more as self-serving and attention-seeking than actually raising awareness to the issues themselves.
