as do I,which is inconvenient to say the least when I'm flying a industrial in space. Now i have to dodge socket closed errors as well as all the usual things, which does not make for what I call a working game, which is what I'm paying a subscription for. Seeing this has only started happening since the last patch and all my other online games work fine, I strongly suspect it's something in the patch..

I have the same issue. I get "sokcet closed" quite often. This hurts when you are running 2-3 accounts at the same time. I guess no more missions, WH day trips, exploration, PVE in general, and absolutley no PVP. So pretty much can't do anything now.

The only advice I can get you is to run Logserver everytime, then submit a full bug report to the, with as much information as possible. After all in the 5-10 client freeze thread CCP posted this.
Quote:

Can you run with LogServer and file a bug report? That might give useful details to track this down. Mention my name (CCP Snorlax) in the bug report title so it gets routed to me right away.

'socket closed' 2 mins into logging on EVERY time for the past hour or so...and this happened a week ago or so as well. It seems as though so many have this same unfixed prob. That's just too bad because it makes me feel like quitting already even though I'm just a week old player and I just upgraded my accnt. Now that would be a FIRST for what seems to be an awesome game to me. Pls fix this CCP.

oh look! people who are having the same issue I am!

Luckily though the two CCP employees that I've talked to so far blame everything on my specific wifi network. Sorry guys apparently my wifi network is ruining eve for all of you as well.

GM Scotsman and GM Smiley, well done lads.

Same but my socket closed started with the WIS expansion. And its not the connection because it sometimes only d/c 1 or 2 clients and not the others which is proof its not my connection. Additional proof it affects many others around the world on different networks and no other games have any issues at all.

Another way to reduce the network latency is too shut down no crucial processes running in the background.

To do so Ctrl - Alt - Del / Task Manager and then look for any process that is using the Network other than Eve - Online. Select the process and then End Task. Reducing the network latency even by killing a process that only uses 0.1 to .01 Mbit / sec makes a big difference.

Changing the hamsters food doesn't hurt either.

I've just spent the past 3 hours having to deal with the socket closed error. For some reason it has now stopped appearing and I seem to be able to play fine.

Thats what happened to me last night, was multiple times then it was ok rest of the night.

Everyone should list the region of space they were in when this happened, before there were issues with ddos going on somehow and parts of the areas of space would go down. Its for me last few days been always so far in minmatar space.

Wow, 756 posts on this since 2012 with references going back to 2008 on this issue.....

There have been days that my Corp mates are also experiencing the issue, and I am not - one of them after getting disconnected 6 times doing a combat mission and losing his ship has quit playing. He turned off his subscription. I have been disconnected 3 times with one toon and only 1 time with the other.

I think it is funny that I CCP can keep track of when my PLEX is going to expire and hold out their hand for more money, however they don't compensate for when the problem is real and their fiscal responsibility. I am just about fed up with playing this game and paying for it just for the frustration.

My Corp mates and I use Raid Call and are all over the U.S., UK, etc. and we will experience it together in geographically different areas. CCP gets a Denial of Service attack and it is our problem because we can't play. Just because they don't invest in any real network security is not our responsibility.

My record frustration is 8 times in one day before I gave up playing with the one toon. I KNOW that I am not the only person who multi-boxes it. I bought the correct recommended graphics card just for this game. I have 2 monitors with the 2 monitor outputs so that I can run 2 toons at once. Sometimes both toons get this issue, other times it is only one. Our CEO who has been playing for 9 years has recommended cleaning up the log files since they multiply like rabbits and that has helped.

So I had to put my rant, then create a technical...wonder if anyone will see my rant about how frustrating this is......

I am an IT guy so I do understand that CCP has doesn't care - otherwise this issue would be resolved and not still occurring after 6 years. The so called "customer service" doesn't do squat so sending in a ticket does nothing. I was having an issue on my notebook which has the recommended video card when I first started playing. Sent the log in and they sent me a fix for the wrong video card. When I attempted to respond, the ticket had been closed and I would have to start again.

Instead of pushing out all the supposed "improvements" (do they really not have any clue? Even attempting to build something after the changes or research in our POS is cost prohibitive), they should fix ongoing issues with the underlying structure.

Here is how I know that this is a CCP issue:

running 2 toons at the same time and only 1 of them gets the socket closed

netstat
Active Connections

Proto Local Address Foreign Address State
TCP 10.0.0.7:52914 87.237.39.166:https ESTABLISHED
TCP 10.0.0.7:53348 87.237.39.162:https ESTABLISHED

each toon received their own socket with different IP and port connections - still lost connection with both at the same time

netstat

Proto Local Address Foreign Address State
TCP 10.0.0.7:52914 87.237.39.166:https ESTABLISHED
TCP 10.0.0.7:53402 srv172-h:https ESTABLISHED

both toons received a single socket and where disconnected at different times....

This is how I know that CCP doesn't care about any kind of customer service, I had to read through a number of these requests prior to finding the correct IP to perform Trace Route on. If they really want to fix this, there would be at the beginning of the threads a how to get and then the items to get for no IT people.

I have been disconnected 3 times tonight and am wondering why I keep playing this waste of time. My corp mates are the only reason, seems to be my only answer.

After doing the tracrt I can see why the VPN connection to London might help since you are coming out in a country that CCP actually supports.

I don't use Steam for this game. I have 2 different computers that if I don't mind the video crashing on the notebook most of the time that I change "rooms" (going through a gate, entering or leaving a station) this problem will occur on both or only on one and not the other.

Doing a netstat shows that I still have a active connection which is perplexing if the socket has failed.

From a troubleshooting perspective, you would think that CCP would look at all the socket connections on the servers and look through the logs to find out the root cause. Instead they hire inexperienced or ignorant server admins and "developers" that either don't care or don't have a clue where to start to look for root cause.

Wireshark, Firewall logs, server logs (and there are a number of parsing tools that can work based on the server OS) might help.

There are too many patches on both the application and the servers that will hamper this effort (if anyone actually takes on this responsibility) since it sounds like they don't use any kind of Change Management or Software Life Cycle control (try ITIL for some of this guys and there are a number of free best practices just takes some work though). Now that CCP is pushing out new changes 8 times a year, they will never figure out why things happen.

My biggest complaint against developers - be willing to roll back. You have a roll back plan...why not use it.
