This is why it is happening - insight provided from the "anti-ganking" channel leader.

It's not Anonymous. We know who it is.

If nothing else, Anonymous would be embarrassed by the amateurishness of this type of script kiddy attack.

Bæring Gunnar Steinþórsson at CCP has set up a webpage showing the seismic activity under the Bárðarbunga volcano, located under Vatnajökull glacier, in 3D.
Bæring uses the data from apis.is, visir.is reports.

DDOS protection too expensive ? Come on even a private WoW server has an effective DDOS protection.

What amuses me is that the posts regarding downtime have not changed in almost 20 years. LOL.

When EQ came out it would go down for 3 days at a time. Some dealt with it better than others of course.

But even after all these years and a significant increase in the general knowledge of how the internet works we still have the same posts:

1. "I hope we're going to be compensated for this."

2. "I'm going to sue them."

3. "Restart your computers."

Amazing.

Not sure how I feel about compensation for just one day. But either way. It's not outrageous to expect compensation when you haven't provided a certain product to those who have paid for it. A small helping of unalocated SP would be a good gesture. You'd still have whiners. But thier going to whine no matter what.

But like I said. Worse case scenario, timewise, most anybody has lost is a days worth of skill point training. So compensation may be negligible anyway.

No offense, but if your life revolves around the availability of a video game and you seek compensation for downtime then you need to review your life.

some people play this as a break from what you call RL. you know, getting up at 5am everyday with baby, cleaning up, changing his nappies, making him milk, and real food, then repeat cleaning and nappy process again, b4 its time for lunch maybe youll have enough time to clean the dishes and other house work b4 then, so you can repet the process again and again, with maybe an hours break to "PLAY EVE" b4 bed time so you can start REAL LIFE over again like groundhog day tomorrow.

Everytime CCP stomps a RMT operation into the ground they throw a tantrum and attack the servers.

As long as you gave him this money to play eve and that's what you were doing, it's no longer your money but his money. So what he's doing with it is no longer your business as long as it isn't illegal. And in my opinion, survey a volvano near the place i live is quite a good activity to let me the time to pick up my family and drive away.

Did you give monthly your boss a report of your activties and the related use of his money ?

Boss: I minused your salary by 19$£€ cause you used it for online gaming and i'm not agree with this kind of activities.

You're jousting at the wrong windmill. I couldn't care less who used what server for what.

I do want to know what's going on what that damm volcano, though, and I do want snotnosed script kiddies heavily fined and put in jail for stealing my bought-and-paid-for game time.

Or, trace route their activities, find their places, publish them and let the nearby community physicaly solve the problem. \o/

In the USA you get a 20,000 fine for stealing a 99 cent song so these guys would probably get life in prison without parole. The problem is many hackers come from countries where they're not interested in finding or locking them up.

I'm not saying give them prison time but at least put them on probation where they're not allowed to use computers for a year or so.

Just a juicy fine will work. Hiding your use of a tablet, smartphone, laptop, or any of the other myriad of networked devices is pretty easy. Hiding from your local government's financial bureau is not.

But anyways.... Eventually Somer will run out of bitcoins and everything will go back to normal. It's just a video game folks, call this another part of playing the meta if you want.

Would it be possible for CCP to give us a number on how many queries they had to deal with above their usual amount or is this restricted information for security reasons?

If i was CCP, i wouldn't waste money on preventing this kid's attack.. For one, he gets distracted too quickly, servers were interrupted for what? 60 seconds this time?

If he does it again, expect the servers to be back normal within the hour.

Honestly, that kind of information only feeds the scriptkiddies props for their effforts. No point telling anyone anything when all upsets attributed to these kinds of chaosmongers are used as advertisements of their prowess and ability. Screw them. Just go on about things like it doesn't matter, because, honestly, it doesn't. A few hours of time loss, unless it caused a loss of SOV or your POS network exploded from lack of fuel (in which case the procrastination would be more to blame than the downtime) won't really negatively affect most players in EVE.
