CCP is being jammed by a Falcon... or a Rook... Or a Blackbird... Or... hell, it may as well be all three of them. TQ Is being Blobbed by ECM Boats!

Because DDOS = ECM.

Come and join us in Deninard!

Is this affecting any other services? IE, account services etc.

I'm having issues adding game time to my account.

do you know that CCP's servers are under DDoS attack at the moment? For once its not their fault so quit your bitching

THIS.

Seriously. I've fought DDOS attacks, they suck. It's like trying to block a fire hose with ten nozzles from 15 feet away using only your hands. All this while management screams at you about lost revenue. CCP has no control over the tuds doing the attack, and defending against it is next to impossible.

This is not CCPs fault, it's the fault of whomever is attacking them. Yes, it's just that simple.

You can't magic wand this crap away, fools. There is no reset button. Sometimes things just take time to fix. It happens to the best of sites from time to time. I worked for one of the best/largest sites on the net with the best netsec talent there is, with the best hardware there is, outside of government. What they're fighting is REALLY hard to counter. Basically CCP is being blobbed.

If you lose your ship due to it (I disconnected in non-sov null, I'm likely to lose mine) file a petition.

Defending against DDoS is hardly "next to impossible" - in fact, it's absurdly easy. This is the simplest type of attack, it's age-old, just one step above script kiddy, every systems administrator has the working mechanics of a DDoS down cold, and everyone knows a dozen effective ways to defend against it.

That being said, easy isn't necessarily the same as cheap.

There's real reasons why your Eve character doesn't do /dance.

I never understood what the different colors actually meant, and I've run several hundred Covert Research Facilities so I'm quite proficient in hacking (and doing so as quickly as possible).

I know it's not your fault CCP.

This DDOS has cost me at least a days worth of training as wasn't able to log in and update my que yesterday, and won't be able to log in again until this evening (at best). I imagine lots of players have missed a at least a day worth or training.

Do you think there will be any SP given out?

I do seem to remember free SP being allocated last time there was an extended DDOS

Protect me from knowing what I don't need to know. Protect me from even knowing that there are things to know that I don't know. Protect me from knowing that I decided not to know about the things that I decided not to know about. Amen.

My web site hosted in Singapore is still unable to connect to the API, while my home computer in Australia can, so it appears the response has been to basically sever Asia from the Eve servers. I'll have to move my infrastructure to the western civilized world, so win win.

They are responsible for this.

this is their IRC chat https://kiwiirc.com/client/irc.darkode.com/?theme=cli#lizardsquad

What a great idea, let's all go to an IRC channel where the opers can read our IP addresses on connection.

It helps to use this thing called a "router" which probably comes equipped with a "firewall" that makes the concept of launching a organized DDOS or other attack against a single internet user behind NAT a bit, well, batpoop silly to even say out loud :P

I'd be okay with relying on the router firewall if I had access to its settings and knew that it was configured properly, but I don't. So I'm not going to take a chance at making myself a target of whatever script kiddies do.

I'm not versed in networking or security. I don't actually know a whole lot about how the internet infrastructure really works. I'm a computer science student though, so a course on that sort of thing would be a good elective for me.

It's generally based on difficulty, and the red and yellow cores are a bit stronger than the green ones. All of them requiring more skill than your average DDoS kiddie can muster. Blink

Well when it gets to the... whatever that part is called I don't bother looking at the numbers, I just mash it until it's dead.
Very rarely has this resulted in me failing the hack.

That's an excellent choice.

On another note: I love people claiming that CCP getting attacked and not responding is their own fault; imagine 100 000 people outside your house pelting it with rocks and your wife complaining about how you can't protect the windows from getting smashed in.

People who are whining about it's CCP's fault for not able to play the game. THERE IS LITTLE THEY CAN DO AGAINST A DDOS!

Ddos are cheap yet terrible effective, They will clog up servers with packages. And if the server migrates and the scriptkiddies want to keep it down they just move their attacks to the new location.

I played world of warcraft for 8 years and they never lost the servers due to a DDoS attack.

I also played WoW and there is no need for DDoS because Blizzard would bust their servers by themselves often enough.
