Pretty sure they stopped teaching that fairly recently. Now it's all about wringing your hands if someone somewhere somewhen says anything that might impact your self esteem.

Anyway, on the actual topic of this, I am interested to know if this is actually the same DDoS, or if it's just the servers crapping out in an aftereffect from the first one.

In particular since, as best I can tell, the entire game dropped off for everybody at the same time.

Nobody is arguing against your right to say such things. We're merely saying that you really shouldn't say such things. Since when was it so horrible to have people ask you to be considerate?

Maybe this is hypocritical of me because I'm often rude, and crass, and I get angry. But I'm not a bigot, and I refuse to use the words that they've appropriated to hurt others.

Oh idk, I think there are plenty of folks, quite possibly including some in this thread, that feel that they or others actually have a "right" to not be offended.

I haven't seen anyone say as much.

Yea but people can sensitive now days. We live in a society where peoples identity revolves around their race or sexual orientation so when you make fun of that it crushes their whole world.

I'm not saying any form of racism or other discrimination is acceptable... It's not!

What I'm saying is people are very sensitive today. You call me a whatever because of my race, religion, or whatever else you find about me and I'll just look at you like you're stupid... I'm not going to let someone like that bother me in the least...

What about that one time where someone asked me to join their teamspeak server and made fun of me? If being offensive and silly via text is serious, being offensive and silly via VOICE must include a blank reason life time ban! xD

And some of us are actually gay and some of us have been on the receiving end of physical blows while said word was being used in a not so nice manner. So while you may compare me to some whinny feminist word policeman I don't give two damns about your right to say the word that's fine.

But being a belligerent jack off is going to get you called out for being a moron for using language. So forgive me if you think the word *** means bundle of sticks. To others it means prejudice and pain. Not that that means anything to a person ignorant of the world around them and can post without any consequence over the internet.

That's a pretty slippery slope though, because you can use that to justify reimbursing over things like spotty internet connections on the client end, power outages, etc. And I'd rather that didn't happen, because you can easily arrange these things to happen if things aren't going your way in the game.

Probably a variation of the earlier DDoS, since the server appears to be up in the launcher, but can't be reached when you actually try to log in.

It isn't EXACTLY the same DDoS because when that took place i couldn't log in at all, and the launcher couldn't even get the status of the servers.

1. DDoS attacks are illegal and the offenders should be tracked down and arrested. It's not that hard, especially when they're bragging about it all over the intertubes. (Stated obvious fact that no one has questioned)

2. Online services can be insulated from DDoS attacks in a variety of ways. CCP should be attending to that, especially if this kind of thing has happened before. (Awesome of you to point out networking 101 and I am sure you have a detailed network analysis of this attack to report to both CCP and their upstream providers to provide a 0-hour fix, as I am sure no one is working on this at all or as even noticed in the first place)

3. While it can be argued that compensating players for downtime can be seems as "encouraging" miscreants, it can also be said that CCP should be rolling servers back after these events. Even a 5-10 minute rollback would prevent the bulk majority of losses caused by disconnection. (Whatever bad thing just happened to me before server drop was unfair, and I want to gain an advantage right now.)

4. While it's easy to say that CCP should not compensate players for losses in cases that are beyond the company's control, it can also be said that CCP should indemnify players for losses that are beyond OUR control. In a third-party attack on the company's property, its customers should not be the ones to swallow losses. And since Eve is a game in which real money is paid for in-game losses, that is doubly so. (Eve is REAL, my spaceships are worth real life cash, and I will be consulting my internet-spaceship-lawyer soon to file a lawsuit in Caldari space, see you in Jita Court, CCP!)

Just saying.

Let me fix this for you.

(In all srsness, dude, it's a video game. If you lost something due to unscheduled downtime, just file a polite support ticket (key word is POLITE) and put yourself in the shoes of CCP - provide links to information that proves this loss, provide all information that would be relevant if you were the person looking over your issue, and then just be patient as a real human being is going to have to deal with your support ticket.)

How terribly stupid you truly truly are. Sexuality is but a small part of a persons life and while you think all of us gay people are pink pride wearing whiners some of us are military veterans, blue collar workers, teachers, parents, and REGULAR people. I don't need your acceptance and I sure as hell don't need your armchair psychology on what makes up peoples lives and what's important to them.

You don't know a damned thing about me or anyone else who's posted here so I'd recommend you just keep quiet and keep your ignorance to yourself. Or am I shattering the entire world around you?

If you can actually be "hurt" by the rantings of someone obviously less intelligent or "cultured" or "classy" than you, all I can say is your parents seriously missed out on some things when they raised you. Also, see my earlier post about your perceived "right to not be offended."
