Incursions vs Sov

On the 0.0 sov issue; I would suggest this in *addition* to the current sov mechanics, not a replacement.

Step 1) Null sec incursions expanded to include all pirate factions in their appropriate regions, Sansha in Catch, Guri in Geminate etc. Rewards from such incursions to be roughly equal to anoms.

Step 2a) If the incursion is not dealt with sov in the constellation reverts to the Pirates; levels reset to 0. Stations become based on NPC standing to that faction.
Step 2b) If the incursion is dealt with the sov goes to the party responsible for finishing it; assuming the same group completes as the current sof (consistent owner) levels remain, reset if different.

Step 3) Algorithm developed to increase rate of incursions to overwhelm vast rental empires, background tweaks to rate as required. Less likely close regions affected.

Issues I can see:
- Gamed by larger rental empires?
- Trickier for smaller groups to hold on? (maybe don't announce incursion, must be found organically?)
- Smaller group could have trouble holding a constellation vs 1 or 2 systems.
- Larger groups can stomp pve content quickly, could pre-park capitals in every system.

Issues it *might* solve:
- It would be harder to push the desired sov holder alliance across the map
- Unused space requires significant maintenance.
- Generates PvE and PvP content; less boring than warp to anom, drop sentries, read book.
- Less programming work on the backend than some solutions.
- Allows tweaking in the backend to allow subtle change, not a big bang.
- Interesting future direction with Player corps joining pirate militias?
- Disrupt capital heavy 0.0 warfare
- Constellations over regions become areas worth fighting over, boarders of constellations now matter.
- Algorithm could be tweaked to make less used systems more likely to be hit
- Two smaller groups could attack a larger group who’s forces must be split to defend a large empire increasing chance of success

Dear F&I, I'm missing something, what is it? (or is it simply the post where this was suggested already?). Would this simply mean Greater Western & Bot gain more control, or could the number of incursions be tweaked in a way to overwhelm them slowly without placing an onerous burden on the smaller alliance. Could smaller alliances attack larger ones or would this simply result in sov churn for sov churns sake? Is such an algorithm a pollution of the sandbox ideal? Could this be toyed with in a current NPC region then expanded gradually to minimize disruption? Or alternatively making an NPC region capital free sov.

So you want to force people to rat, for considerably more effort than regular anoms take, but less reward than even a highsec incursion, or they'll lose all thier sov.

So anyone who can't throw up a 100 man battleship fleet on short notice can no-longer hold sov.

Why is forced ratting (with poor rewards, especially compared with the risk faced) and the exclusion by the game mechanics of small or single timezone alliances going to be good for the game?

I don't get how this helps anything. This is simply easier for the larger alliances/coalitions as they naturally have a decent subset who are happy to do PVE endlessly whereas the small alliance who is trying to establish a foot hold in null sov has to spend all their time doing PVE content which stops them from pursuing their goals in the PVP areas.

This just seems to penalise the smaller player groups whilst not really adversely affecting the larger groups. This does nothing to address any of the issues experienced by sov nullsec at the moment whilst introducing more tedious and unwanted grinding.

Leave incursions as incursions. If there are enough people that want it expand them to other factions but linking them to null sov really isn't a sensible approach for either null sov or incursions.

I have to ask the OP, do you actually have any experience of sov null or of doing incursions in nullsec?
