Alternatice idea to solve defensive "critting" of wormholes

Just read this interesting piece where a player argues that the mass-dependant spawn range supposed for wormholes in Hyperion is bad:
Wormholes are not gates

The author thinks that CCP wants to nerf "critting" of wormholes, i.e. reducing their allowed mass to a small amount to prevent an enemy fleet from entering.
"Ragerolling" is seen as positive, because it creates fight opportunities. Ragerolling would also be nerfed since capital ships could not safely be used any more if they spawn out of jump range.

DIfferent approach:
What about coupling the time and mass limit?

Currently, a wormhole counts time passed and mass jumped seperately. If either limit is reached, the hole will collapse.
What if there was only ONE timer?
That is decreased by passing time AND mass?

Say it starts with 24h, but gets shorter with every jump, according to the mass of jumped ships.
So if someone makes a wormhole critical, it will just collapse after a short while, even if no more ships jump through it.

Intentionally closing a wormhole will be possible as it is now, but people won't be able to use their standard formula since they have to take the age of the wormhole into account.

I argued this with a worried friend. How about reducing the spawn range a bit (I still think different spawn range is a good thing), but add jump timers - liek aggression timers, that extend and prevent bigger ships etc from jumping more often ?

I've been thinking it should be the opposite of what Fozzie is doing.

Start by making the default spawn distance 7,500m. The largest of ships spawn at this distance, +/- 1,000m. This means they can spawn within 1,500m-3,500m of the WH jump point.

As the ship sizes decrease, the spawn distance increases. This is because those ships are more capable of escape and can close the gap between themselves and the WH jump point more easily.

I know **** all about wormholes though so :grainofsalt:

Well pretty much the whole wormhole community large medium and small corps is of the opinion that this is just plain a bad idea, and it is fairly if not totally unanamous. And the wormhole community DOES have experience of wormholes.
People who live by Gate mechanics just do not have the experience of ALL the mechanics that combine to make them the experience they are.

This change would have totally and completely the opposite effect to the one they are trying to achieve.
Whilst nullsecers may salivate at the possibility of hot dropping a wormhole capital rolling group, that has been scattered to the four winds and is cut off from all realistic support, it just aint gonna happen.

How would nullsec feel with the same mechanic, after a drop bridge or jump, all one's ships are scattered out of range of logi which are off god knows where, and also fitting services from the carriers, and unable to use either a jump bridge or cyno?
Sounds like a recipe for suicide doesn't it?
So you would just stop using them and stay in the POS?
Doesn't sound like a lot of fun does it?

At least you could bring in megaloads of other ships, and blob your way out of trouble, we don't have that choice, so suicide or stay home it is.

And that IS NOT fun.
And no amount of lipstick on a pig is going to change that.
