CCP Please Fix Bio URL for https://

As many of you already know there is no way to create a general link inside of your bio if it is secure.

Example: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=363298&find=unread

Which is funny considering that you can't link Eve's own forums inside of your bio.

Can CCP please address this issue?

Thanks,

Links not appearing in your EVEgate bio is a pretty common problem. I'm not sure if the secure https really has any relevance though (you'll find it's the same with ALL kinds of links).

Thankfully though I discovered how to fix it. Big smile

- Go ingame and open up your bio.
- Go to the link(s) that aren't displaying.
- Delete the last one or two characters in the link as it appears in the bio.
- Type those letters back in again.

Viola.

Worked for me, for all links, across all my characters' bios.

Thanks for the response but that's not the problem.

"Error Loading Requested URL

The server's response was invalid.

Error Code: -324"

When you go to create a link inside your bio it only offers http:// not https:// which is needed for the forums.

So if I wanted to create link like THIS in my bio it wouldn't work.

Ahh gotcha Smile

Welp that sucks then.

But for every other kind of link you'll find that little work-around works.

This might be an idea for you to try. Use tiny url to redirect to the EvE forums link you want to use.

That would work but I don't think most people trust going outside of the https;// for safety reasons.

eve-search.com doesn't use https, so you can link to forum threads that way..

This is true...but shouldn't we be able to link directly to Eve's own forums?

This might be a silly answer, but doesn't it work if you just remove the s and make it http://.....?

I would guess this is more an issue with the IGB, than anything, but I'm going to check.

Will probably come back and report egg on my face. Edit to follow.

EDIT:

No egg needed. Just delete the https:// from the front of the link (as the url window provides http:// already) and keep the rest of the link.

That works fine.

You just won't be logged in.

That doesn't work. Look HERE.

You can only edit to the right of http://

Yes, it does work. Go look my bio up in game and click the link that says:

Test Forum Link.

Just copy the link you want to link to. Paste it in the box at the bottom and then edit out the https://

EDIT:

If you also click the other link in my bio, you'll see that goes to the https:// fine. I did that one manually. So you can link to https:// fine also.

Hmm. What about the other link too?

They work fine for me in game.

The other one works but it has the "s" still in it. How did you do the other link?

There's a couple of ways:

1. Easiest:

Paste the link into a chat window. That will automatically converts it from text to a link.
Drag the link from the chat window into your bio

2. Use html code

but it isn't working for me at the moment for some reason, so my memory could be wrong

This is false. I invite you to look at this character's (Mehashi 'Kho) bio in game. In it you will see two links I just made via the bio page using the create url button. I will leave them in a week or so in case you do not play regularly. They are nothing special, just links to posts in this forum thread (because you mentioned you could not link to eve's own forum).

When entering a secure url in the box in this picture (the "Enter Link" box) do not be fooled into thinking you must delete the part of the address preceding the double-slash. If you paste the https address straight into the box without modification it works perfectly fine.

I invite you to test these links, they open correctly as https, no trickery, no pasting from outside pages, no special tools or second windows needed. Simply the bio page, the create url button and pasting the address.

So - although it might not be immediately obvious - CCP do in fact provide the functionality that you seek.

Worked for me, for all links, across all my characters' bios.

As a quick aside, the eve gate bio's don't even consistently display text, let alone links.

Observe my bio as created in game, next to my bio as it appears on eve gate.

1) One of the two links does not display on eve gate (even though they were created in exactly the same manner)
2) Even a bit of bolded text does not display on eve gate where it does in game.
3) I have been in my corp for 2 days longer in game than I have on eve gate*

So always check your bio in game rather than through eve gate to accurately check what is displayed. Eve gate is... inconsistent, to be polite.

*But curiously, I only made the https links tonight, so it can't be a case of eve gate only pulling info every few days.
