OMG please stop suggesting things that will give the hamsters yet more heart attacks. There is already enough AOE processes being handled by the node, especially in a big fleet fight...why would you want to add more? I don't love TIDI that much.

We are talking about one AoE calcuation per exploding ship on a very limited range. Not exactly a server melting problem.

On the contrary it would reduce the size of fights and remove the F1 monkeys quickly, considerably reducing the workload on servers.

I think this idea should only happen if you self destruct.

Is that my two cents or yours?

It's a great idea....

First ship explodes & takes out the pod, cargo can etc as they're fragile. Server pauses whilst calculations checked for a chain reaction (remember all the fighters, frigates etc in the blast zone). Chain reaction happens, all pods, loot etc destroyed, server has near meltdown.

Then we need to work out who is responsible for what destruction for the bounty & security status bonus & hit. That should finish the node off....

For information, I'm pretty sure torpedoes used to do splash damage. This was removed because of the Concord effect. Might be the reason mines were taken out of the game too.

The difference between smartbombs and the mechanic I'm describing are that you have quite a bit of fair warning when a ship is going to explode,

So you're now suggesting we taper off our DPS in order to get out of range of the blast, so that their logi guys have an easier time of saving that [insert_ship_here] that we're trying to kill?

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia
