That was fast. I contacted the pilot who transported the scientists. Below is the correspondence:
The top was his response to the request on the bottom.

To: Tahrodiis Vokun,

Dear sir,
Our organization recently rescued 8 scientists that you were transporting. We would like to know the circumstances under which they ended up in a jet can in space. Much appreciated,

The Disciples of Ston

In view of this, this pilot definitely goes on the Wall of Shame:

Returning from business in Amarr, I apporached a border gate and found three cans.
In all, 67 people were rescued. The Wall of shame tells the story of the offenders, but nothing can adequately tell of the experience of those who were mercilessly jettisoned and left to die most horribly. That is a story only the former slave can tell, or the sex slave, or even the scientist whose life is "less valuable" than a weapon or module. They must tell their own stories. In time, perhaps they will. For now, 67 more lives have been snatched from death cans and given a new opportunity to live. From now on, I will list only linked names in my Wall of shame. Corporate and other info can by learned by following the bio link.

UPDATE ON THE RESCUED SCIENTISTS

The eight rescued scientists have learned of how they ended up adrift in space. They have also seen certain other pilots respond . They are appalled. They have also observed our operations and learned of our programs. We have told them that they are free to go and offered transport. We have also offered to hire them to work for us. To our utter delight, we discovered that they are all agronomists or horticulturists that were travelling to an agronomy symposium in Jita when they were dumped. All eight have decided to work for the Disciples. Four are staying on in an advisory capacity in our Centers in Amarr space and 5 are going back to Korama to work as Agronomy professors and field agents in our Vocational and Academic Centers there.

We are happy to welcome them on board.

A double rescue was conducted today on the way to mining. 58 people were rescued in two separate death cans. Feanor says that each rescue adds diversity and hope to the community. Many here are looking forward to breaking off in to smaller communities around the cluster when safer transport is available.

10 people were rescued from a blue indicated jet can tonight. Blue invites investigation that might not otherwise occur yet for all the traffic, no one rescued them. No one had "time." Now they are safe and sound at the table of Gladius the Elder. Gladius is a remarkable man. New arrivals always are invited to supper with him the first night in the center. There they talk and eat; not a feast but a humble meal eaten in freedom and in recognition of the gift of life.

29 lives were rescued from two death cans today. On the Second rescue, there were three jet cans; only one contained living humans. The others were probably wrecks that had been salvaged but not looted. There is always a palpable tension that is felt when approaching the cans and it is not relieved until the people are back safe in the center. Quite the universe we live in.

Edit: Less than two weeks remain in training time before we can transport some of our sub-communities to places outside the Empire. We are all looking forward to this in spite of the risks.

honorable sirs, and the disciples of ston,

first and foremost, i wish to commend you all for the immeasurable good you are doing with your work. it is refreshing to find those risking, and willing to sacrifice, all for the lowliest among us. even more so when it is one of us capsuleer 'gods' deigning to notice the plight of some 'mere human' slaves.

before i can continue, however, i must admit to crimes of my own...

it was early in my career that i found myself cleaning up a field of ship wrecks. the debris field had been one of my own making; i had found a minmatar combat-mission agent willing to provided me with the coordinates of an amarran transport convoy and a sizable reward for its destruction and the retrieval of something called 'vitoc.' even as we discussed my terms of service, i logged on to galnet and, with some quick research, found that vitoc was the antidote for the amarran slave-drug vitoxin. my agent explained that this antidote was sorely needed for the republic's repatriation program, so that our freed brother and sisters might be cured of the vitoxin curse. i was a faithful republic warrior! how could i possibly refuse?

when i found that last transport's cargo hold still intact, i knew i had found my prize. upon scanning the can, however, i found a number of living slaves as well. i honestly do not remember how many there were. i do remember, though, thinking that if vitoc had been in the hold with them, then they must be victims of vitoxin. i had a dilemna; i needed to deliver the vitoc to my agent, for the good of the republic... and yet, there were people right here in front of me that would undoubtedly need the antidote as well. if i took them with me, and i'm sure i had the room in my cargo hold, it would only be a matter of hours before they began showing signs of vitoxin poisoning... they were going to die, plain and simple. there was nothing i could do about it. i couldnt give them the antidote, there were too many other people that were relying on me to retrieve this vitoc, so that it could be researched and duplicated.

so i took the vitoc, resealed the can, and destroyed it with an autocannon burst as i flew away.

and that was how i operated for the better part of the next two years. every time i came across an intact cargo hold or salvage can with slaves in it, i gave them a quick death. it was a mercy, i told myself. it was far better than what the amarran slave-drug would have done to them, i reasoned. it was for the good of the republic, i heard myself say.

then it happened. it was not too long ago, a couple months at the most, i got back from a combat-mission, and unloaded my ship's hold. as is my habit, i then went down into my hangar to inpsect the cargo and salvage, and discovered a group of ten slaves in my hangar. in my haste to clear my latest field of battle, i had transfered them to my cargo hold and, amazingly, had not been scanned by customs agents at the intervening gates. they greeted me like a savior and yet i found myself in a panic! the vitoxin! i was sure that i was going to have nearly a dozen corpses in my hangar in a very short period. to their credit, the slaves, a group of domestics led by a small old woman named verin, only laughed at me!

they explained that vitoxin was used only on a small number of slaves, and that they would never have been deemed important enough to recieve vitoxin treatment. ships that carried vitoc did so for use with their most valuable slave-crews, not the passengers in the hold. i suddenly thought of all those cans i had destroyed over the years and felt quite sick. it was, i believe, only by an act of sheer willpower that i managed to keep from running away or breaking down right there in front of them.

over time i learned much from verin. she was vherokior like myself, and even though i am only one generation removed from the slave-pens myself, i found that i had maintained an almost-willful ignorance of my people's history. at first realization of this, i attempted to blame my parents for shielding me from the truth, but such words ring hollow. they are dead and gone nearly ten years now and i really only needed to look in the mirror to find one worthy of blame. i long considered myself an enemy of any who would traffic in human chattel, and yet my crimes were nearly as heinous. i was disgusted with myself, but far from despondent. i threw myself into my work, into my training, into my research. i became more selective of what missions i accepted.

i realized that i was searching for a meaning to my life as a capsuleer, as a warrior, as a being of conscience... and it was verin, the former slave, who delivered me. she told me of a rumor she had heard, stories of a matriculation program that sought to rescue abandoned slaves, heal for them, care for them, and bring them back into the fold of civilization as free men, women, and children.

this, you see, is how i found you... and, if you will listen to this humble criminal's words, i have but two requests.

the first belongs to verin, my own rescuer... she and her fellows would like very much to enter into your program. they are extremely motivated and resourceful, and far stronger in character than anyone i have ever had the pleasure to meet. i would be pleased to arrange their transport into your caring custody at your earliest convenience. i have no doubt that they would prove extremely valuable to you and yours.

the second request is mine. i have no idea how many lives my ignorance has taken over the last two years, but my debt is great, and i would find some way to atone. if you, honored sirs, would take me at my word and accept my offer, i would help in any way i possibly can. you have only to ask.

Shaera,

Greetings sister of my tribe. Your story is a common one up to the point where you sought change. That is where many capsuleers just continue in the violence and selfishness symptomatic of their power. You, however, chose to to recognize truth and to turn to a better way. Your friend and Mentor "Verin" is indeed a bringer and teacher of truth for that is what her name means.

Sister, the Disciples of Ston believe in second chances. Some consider us naive to believe that people can change. We prefer to believe that Capsuleers are gifted for higher purposes than senseless violence and constant accumulation of wealth at the expense of others. There is room for you in our organization or even as someone who helps in the cause apart from being part of our corp. The choice would be yours. Those who join the Disciples must espouse non-violence. Not everyone can do this. Disciples also must not damage the corp rep to the point where we cannot work in all areas of space. You would be welcome to submit application at the House of Records in Korama. We would also be happy to work with you in other ways as we have with many pilots who share our values.

We would be glad to provide transport for the former slaves you have rescued to our Matriculation Centers. I am particularly keen on meeting Verin. She sounds like the kind of Elder leadership we are looking for in our programs.

Send me a message as to how many need transport and where they are located and we can arrange a time to meet.

Peace to you from the Disciples of Ston.

The Vocational center requested seeds and soil for their agronomy program and the Academic center requested carbon for their organic chemistry class. Both have been delivered along with some capsuleer bodies for our cadaver dog branch of the service dog program.

Now I am off to meet Ms. Taam and hopefully Elder Verin as well. In my absence, Ston, Edaine and TaPang will cover rescue ops.

Earlier today a group of ten former slaves were rescued from a death can. One of those rescued included a vitoxin infected Brutor. His mother was also one of the slaves and attended him as she though he might die before the rest did. When I rescued them, they informed the crew of his urgent need for vitoc. They had been jettisoned but without the needed vitoc. They were all going to die anyway, right? I suppose the pilot thought, "why not keep the vitox and sell it?"

We were within three jumps of a MIO station where DSTON was able to purchase a supply. A couple units of Vitoc at 800 kilos a piece should last some time, but I will have to confirm this with the Elders as they are more aware of dosage requirements, shelf life and so forth.

The MIO station is one of the most oppressive places I have ever been. I am surprised I was able to get in and out with as much ease as I did.

todako-san,

i felt it best to respond to the other pressing matters before taking up this topic.

i am humbled by your offer of inclusion in the disciples, however, i am afraid that such an arrangement would only serve to make your job even more difficult. my relationship with the state and the empire, while not as bad as some of my comrades within the republic, is rather --strained.

however, i am more than willing to assist you in any way i am able. do not hesitate to contact me should you need anything, from an additional covert ops to armed escort. i fully realize that this last offer goes against your personal code of conduct, and that of the disciples, and i do not mean to give offense... i only mean to illustrate that i am willing to put myself bodily between you and your charges, and those that mean to stand in your way or do you harm.

peace be with you as well,

Ms Taam,
Don't worry about it. When we can meet will be fine. In the mean time, I need to spend some time with my tribal Elders anyway. Let me know which station and what time. We will need to do a direct trade in station as contracting former slaves is illegal.
Peace.

Ten former slaves were liberated from their bondage and 2 slave traders were rescued from death in a jet can in the cold of space. We are still asking Concord to help us settle issues concerning slave traders rescued in this manner. We only ask that they not be sentenced to death or generational slavery. If the DED could coordinate Republic and Empire police officials in such a way to work out an amicable solution, we would be eager to comply. This has not happened however. Our facilities are open to Concord inspection at their bidding. Ultimately, it is not our mission or desire to run a prison for slave traders, but we will humanely house them until another solution is found.

Our development division has begun discussion of instituting a rehabilitation program within our detention center. We realize that this move would create controversy on both sides of the line between the Republic and Empire. However, we desire to be merciful not only to the former slaves we rescue, but also their captors. Grace, after-all, is unmerited by definition. In the mean time, part of this discussion involves restitution. Perhaps slave traders could be given jobs to perform in the divisions in Korama, serving those they once held captive. Risky, but worth exploring, would be contacting the council of Elders in the Matriculation Centers to see if there would ever be room for restitution tasks within the M-Centers. This would have to be carefully done.

Rescue of 10 people conducted while on salvage run.
I have found that the areas that tend to be where people are dumped are also areas where there is plenty of salvage work that can be done. I recently rescued 10 former slaves while doing rather mundane activitiy such as gathering the metal scraps left over from destroyed Imperial navy vessels.

All the passengers were brought safely into the care of Elder Feanor.

I also picked up an exotic dancer who told me that the pilot who "hired" her was attacked but that she survived. I asked her where she wanted to go and she just kind of shrugged. I told her she was welcome to stay at one of our centers until she decides. I also put her in touch with another in her profession that was recently retrained and hired as a clerk at our Development division back in Korama. Everyone deserves a chance at dignified work.

Ten lives were rescued from a death can today. There is a somewhat curious reaction when new arrivals come into the M-Center. As usual, there is great joy and gladness at a life saved. There is compassion. There is also some anger. At what? Anger, that this happens at all. Anger over the fact of such callousness toward human life. It is hard for those who were rescued earlier to relive the experience every time a new group comes in. The Elders say that to convert this strong feeling of anger into a passion for justice and mercy is a good thing. We hope that mercy will prevail in all things and that justice will be weighed out carefully.

342 rescued people with a new chance at life, freedom, self-determination individually and as a community... Because of one changed heart. The Disciples of Ston thank Shaera Taam for rescuing these people from slavery and some from certain death.

What a great delight to meet the Elder Verin. Being in her presence is instantly like being with a wise grandmother. There is a sense of both fearful respect and complete ease, if that is possible. We need this lady at our centers. There is trauma, there is hurt; but there is healing in the hands and face of this woman that can touch those in trauma and those hurt.

A big thank you to Ms. Taam. Peace to you and peace to the 342 free souls you helped.

78 lives were most recently rescued but nearly lost in the process. The pilot was present in the system and near the death can when the rescue was performed. Rather than let these lives be rescued, he attacked. Very recent changes to my ship's outfitting literally saved the lives of 78 people today. The addition of shield extenders and rechargers and three warp core stabilizers enabled me to escape before I was destroyed. I am undergoing repairs now in a station in a neighboring system.

I am not a soldier nor am I a combat pilot. I was fully unnerved by the attack and nearly lost my wit. Thanks to a safe point given to me by Manwe, I was able to warp away and catch my "breath." I reacted way too slowly. I also forgot to check to see if the pilot was in system before transporting the passengers on board. Had I practiced better caution, I could have aligned myself with the safe point and escaped much quicker. My lack of alertness could have cost lives.

There were two other cans owned by the same pilot at the same spot, so I returned in case there were more people to rescue. There was only equipment. The pilot was still there. Below is a short conversation as evidence for the pilot's murderous intentions to see these people die. It wasn't enough to abandon them to death, but also to try to prevent their rescue? Barbaric and cowardly.
