Courier contracts - seriously?

Why are the rewards so bad for these. The highest i could find was 50mil for hauling 700k m3 over 31 jumps with a 1.5 bil collateral. One contract had a 12.5 billion collateral for just 17.5 million reward. What? Do people actually do these? I'm not trying to be negative or have a go but i just don't understand why anyone would do so much work and risk so much money for such low ISK payouts.

Talk to some one at Red Frog Freight about it. They work together and have rules about payout and collateral. Isk can be made.

A few things.

You are seeing crap contracts because the good ones get snapped up within a few minutes of being posted. The bad ones are either scams or just sit there until they expire.

Secondly, the way to make money is to run from hub to hub. That way you can carry five or more packages (depending on their size and what you are flying, of course) at the same time since there are always people like me that are putting up multiple contracts. That trip that you would have made 500k on becomes a trip you make 5 million on.

That said, making a career out of being a courier is probably not a solo project. If you are really wanting to give it a go, apply to some of the moving companies like the above mentioned Red Frog. They take care of the logistics and all you do is haul the stuff and collect your cheque.

There are MANY MANY FedEx pilots in EVE, so good contract lasts minutes before people pick them up.

Also, a lot of people use Red Frog or other hauling corporations for direct services.

What is left are the scam contracts and the people who are to cheap to pay well for others to haul their stuff.

The barrier to entry is pretty high because a freighter and 1-2b isk collateral is pretty much required. If you really want to be a space trucker, you can always take NPC level 4 distribution missions, and you'll make decent isk compared to player courier contracts.

The loot from people I kill litter my assets screen so I set up low collateral, low reward courier contracts to the nearest trade hub.

Of course I'm not out anything if you fail and it saves me from selling to buy orders. Convenient! Twisted

But they are legit contracts.. people will do them. I pay 2% of the collateral as a reward.

If you compare that with the prices from RF Freight that looks like a relatively decent reward.... for 30 jumps 845,000 m3 with 1bil collateral they charge somewhere around 20mio isk.

But to be honest I have no idea why people would do 30 jumps in a freighter for 20mio isk while risking to lose not only the 1bil collateral but also their ~1.5bil isk ship.
I'm just glad they do, because it means that I don't have to. :-P

Myself and some of the scammers in Dodixie have been playing a game lately, called Courier Contract Limbo, where we try to get the most ridiculously awful courier contracts safely completed. We see some unbelieveable contracts get done.

Highlights include:

16 jumps in highsec, low-ish collateral (10m or something like that) - 1000 ISK
8j through lowsec, low collateral - 8k ISK (that one was me)
1b ISK collateral small packages from Dodixie to Jita (15j through high or 12j through dangerous low) - 150k ISK

If you get into hauling, you are competing with these useful idiots. Don't compete with useful idiots - they will bring you down to their level, and beat you with their stubborn ways.

missions? u'll never get rich doing courier missions. I`ve been hauling for a few years now and Ive made billions alone on public courier contracts.

sure, it takes awhile before one can get to a freighter level, but once ur there and u do it right, u can easily make 1+ bil per month.

exactly what I think whenever someone says anything about using redfrog, I can get the idiots to do it for far less, and if they fail well then I make money on the collateral. I was just thinking last night, after someone "bought" a drake off me for 85m, about how I could probably make money sending people on trips to lowsec Twisted

Confirming that the good contracts get snapped up immediately.

When my missioning alt was running Epic arcs, I didn't have the time to keep hauling loot back to Jita to sell. So I would put up courier contracts with 10% reward for the loot... ie 5 mill reward for hauling 1000m3 with 50 mill collateral. All those contracts were snapped up and completed very fast.

Red Frog are probably the standard for what is a "good" price. I just got 2 contracts of 600k m3 for 9 jumps at 7.9M each. I had a 1B collateral because both shipments where worth about 800M.

For me this is great. I got a bunch of fitted ships moved for a fraction of the price of said ships and avoid war targets. For the freight pilots, its 5min for 9 jumps (was out of amarr) or 10min if you assume return for almost 8M. For something so safe that is pretty good isk per hour.

Did you really say 9 jumps in a freighter is 5 minutes? Yeah, that'd be amazing ISK per hour, if it were anywhere near true.

I assume people use the warp implants. But yea i don't know how long that would take? I was basing it on how long my dual plate BS take.

How long?

Off the top of my head, 9j manually piloted used to take me about 30 minutes.

Wow.. so its cheap for me... Good for me. Of course it is typically very safe income. Soon as you need lowsec/nullsec man the prices jump up. Or a rush job.

Holy smokes, all lvl 5 and a 35sec align time!!

This thread is a few weeks old, but since it's been brought back up, I'll toss in to check out the in-game channel. Haulers Channel . There are usually good contracts posted there.

Talk is cheap, but Void S and Quake L are cheaper.
