Rescue Report:

116.06.03 22:49 Viceroy Khanion 8 people

What would delight me is to see an evolution of humanity toward mercy. We have the technology to care for the whole of humanity. What holds us back is the vestige of greed and hatred. Now and then, I am struck with the original grief of seeing the suffering souls we rescue as a symbol of our "slowness" to develop into the higher beings I know we can be; not the souls themselves as slow, but the greedy and hateful ones that perpetrated their suffering. It is also the vestiges of our broken governmental, religious, and social structures that continue to perpetrate violence, bigotry, and oppression of those without power or resources to protect themselves that need to change. I sometimes fear, that even though I may live for many long years as a capsuleer, I might yet miss any appreciable growth in our collective being.

Please forgive me for my pessimism today. Perhaps I need to evolve a more optimistic outlook.

Ah, the wonders of cultural exchange. Give away the baked goods, get the baked bads in return. Urgh.

Reception Report:
116.06.14 Received from Captain Gaufres (206 former slaves, 70 former Elite Slaves)
Rescue Report:
116.06.09 23:28 Mirana Isagar 7 people
116.06.12 18:32 Verruckter Diktator 11 people

The scene was the evening meal and the conversation was about the agridome and the community established there. Part of the conversation was a question how it all came to be. To the inquisitive new Matriculant I answered that it was the pilot who rescued you Captain Gaufres who first planted the seed of this humanitarian work in the minds of a couple social researchers and idealistic philosophers, Manwe Todako and myself. I see with happy nostalgia that Gaufres continues to help those stranded in deathcans as he always has. We salute you.

I thought Molok was the Underminer. Or was that the Mole Man? I never could get those Fed Children's Shows right. Did you see the Biker Fedos from Frarn? Now that was worth watching.

What's a 'Molok'? Is that a kind of fish?

I see that rumours of your demise are greatly exaggerated. You should track down your little friend, Ms Funk, and let her know you're safe.

116.06.15 13:21 Rhazrahon Kashuken 42 people
116.06.15 20:05 Graesson Gilkannon 16 people
116.06.19 18:58 Nessia Mar'Isk, 10 former Slaves, 10 former Elite Slaves

Some improvements that come with age are noticeable to the eye or at least to the perception over the span of time. Other changes take much more time. The aging of a fine wine or cheese all involve a process over time that improves the end product. Subtle at times is the difference of aging that brings a flavorful richness vs an aging that merely eneds in rot and decay. Some processes are even more interesting. A finely crafted guitar with a spruce sound-board improves in sound over time through rigorous playing as the very resin in the wood changes the acoustic character of the wood to generate a richer sound. In this case human intervention teams up with time to help bring about something better. All these metaphors remind me of the need for patient goodness in our time in hope that in another time yet to be, all that we touch may be better.

A very... Amarr point of view. It is good to see that you have a respect for the wisdom and venerability that can potentially come of age, whether it is fine wine, cheese... or people... if they are given the opportunity to age well.

Among the refugees that have joined us recently were several groups of Elite Slaves. As I nor the Aurora management have any expertise in handling the trauma that comes from being enslaved, I felt the best way to help these poor souls was to transfer them to Tahrmal Nalthkh, member of the Disciples of Ston.

As these elite slaves had no typicall amarr slave marks, they must have been enslaved by one of the various pirate factions. I have confidence in the Disciples of Ston that they'll help these people overcome this traumatic experience.

We have received these 240 former Elite slaves in four groupings from Ms. Ymladris. They have reported excellent treatment in the Aurora community and are anxious to integrate among those here. Thank you Ms. Ymladris

I make one brief comment just to indicate that these particular former slaves join others like them previously rescued. They join an already established and well-integrated group of former pirate faction slaves.

Two very late reports and one very recent. Duties planetside have meant reduced patrol presence in the corridor. Other than rescues, the Beacon has also managed some modest confiscation work.

What's worse? Having to start over with absolutely nothing or "starting over" with a greatly reduced quantity of whatever one possessed prior in goods and income? Its not really a trick question. It is one that finds its answer in observation. One may be tempted to answer absolutely or with generalities depending on one's own values. We see people starting over every day and most do remarkably well. We also see people coping with losses that transcend the material. Many former slaves find themselves experiencing profound cultural and spiritual losses even in the midst of new spiritual and cultural horizons. Loss is in the eye of the experiencer.

At the risk of sounding cliché, I might say that starting over well depends on one's ability to let go of the past and my right to what is "owed me" because of past achievements, education, title, position, etc. Starting over well may hinge more on my ability to value the present work as good even if it is totally different. "The pay is crap..." but, is it good work? Is it valuable? Is it a service to others? Your past experience, education, training, etc., was not a waste even if it cannot be applied conventionally to the present situation. Apply it unconventionally. No, a street sweeper doesn't need a doctorate but someone with a doctorate can be a street sweeper. Apply this however the situation demands but remember that life will humble us from time to time. Will we meet that humbling set of circumstances with a pout, anger, resentment? or will we meet it with the freshness of new learning and new serving?

Hardly a cliche and refreshing you hear you say it. Amarr children are taught from birth that to diligently perform and pursue the duties that one is suited to in service of the overall good is its own reward, regardless of whether you are the lowest or the highest on the social ladder, i.e. a street sweeper or a graduate doctorate. In other words, there is self-worth and dignity from a job well done. Embracing that can bring inner peace.
