At this point i have a five planet setup giving me the capacity to produce a tier three product (specialized commodity) and its turning into a lot of micro management. Ive been away for a while so there are a lot of primary materials backed up and I've had to put one storage + one launch pad for every pair of raw resource type. Am I the only one who thinks that storage silos and launch pads simply do not have enough holding space? That and the time limit on expedited transfers is really irritating.

Depending on where your doing your PI, the tax rates and how rich the planets your working on are in desirable quantities, you can have enough space to run a 24/ production colony with very minimal storage.

The trick is P0-P2/P3 colonies. You crunch down P0's into P1's...then crush that down to P2's and eventually, if it's a plasma planet, crunch it down to P3's. This crushing down means they take up less space in the end for hauling. For the P0-P3 you need more time invested to move stuff around and extractor heads, but still storage space is not a problem..

For pure factory planets you can run 3 launch pads and 18 or so factories and it will last you a few days depending on what your making.

I say storage is fine, you just need to develop a layout to suit your needs and how much time you want to spend hauling/micromanaging. Once you have found that out it all falls into place quite easily.

Remember you only really need 1 Launch Pad (10,000 m3 storage). Any other storage required is best served via Silos (12,000 m3 storage) also they require less CPU, by a large margin. This is only really a problem/concern on pure factory planets (which sould be the SMALLEST planets you can find, no 12,000km+ radium barrens need apply) due to minimizing links drain (with a good layout links take bugger all anyways but sometimes you can be 10 power/cpu short...and that's just maddening.

Saying all that I would love silos to be 15,000-18,000m3 storage and take less power. Launch Pads can stay the same as you only need 1 realistically anyways.

Abadayos is wise. Listen to her. I do PI to make starbase fuel. I set up my colonies to continuously process directly to P2 (Four basic processing plants, two for each of the P0 I'm harvesting, and two advanced processing plants making the final product), and route everything through the launchpad for storage/buffer. I can let it run for weeks without needing any storage other than the launchpad. This all works with the CC at upgrade 4, and I expect it'll work even better with CC 5, which I'm moving to, without needing more storage.

Hmm this is all a bit confusing as you seem to be making different things than me.

What I'm making is cryoprotectant solution

I have three extraction planets with two extractors, two silos and one launch pad each - so thats P0

fourth planet has 12 P1 factories, 4 silos and 4 launch pads - thats p1 covered

fifth and final planet has 6 P2 factories, 1 P3 factories, 1 silo and 4 launch pads

(good luck reproducing this)

Now i saw someone say they had 3 P3 factories in one setup but im going to assume that because they're making a p3 product with only two components. Please correct me if im wrong.

maybe if i remove some of the silos and stick to launch pads I can have more production but i really want to have that storage space.

You're short on storage space because you're trying to store P0 stuff and ship it off planet. Bad move. Refine it into P1 right there on the planet; simply have your extractors put in the Launchpad storage and your production facilities take it out and put the P1 back. That will solve your storage worries *and* save you a bundle in customs fees.

Ok so i barely managed to fit 2 extractors and 4 factories on a planet. I'm crossing my fingers in the hopes this is gonna work out :)

I'm lazy. Run P0-P2 on my planets and visit them once a month. Gives me the highest profit-per-click or time spent on planets though which is what I'm looking for.

Plenty of storage space available for that, increasing the storage space would make me even lazier which would mean I would very very rarely visit my planets. If I start to visit my planets less than I visit my research agents (every 12 months or ever more) then I know something is wrong

I have it as 4 as well, same as planetary watchamacallit ( 5 planets)

I'm curious to know what ideas you have for this.

I was also thinking we should have the opportunity to hire DUST mercs to destroy other peoples PI's maybe... I need to start another thread

yeah im getting to that point as well. I assume you use other toons though?
