Tablet/phone tie-ins and hacking and large fleet interface

Move some of the mini games to tablets. Being able to access the market and industry from you phone on your way to or from work (or during a boring meeting) would be one way to do it (and it has been proposed a lot of times).

But what if you were able to do other things on your tablet like remote hacking? A friend goes in guns blazing in a hacking site and when everything is clear he activates a remote hacking module which makes it possible for his clever buddy to do the hacking from the bathtub at his hotel room.

Also... what if your buddy in the bathtub could hack a target ship? Similar, but instead of getting things you shut down the engine or shields or something on the targeted ship.

And, if there were a Large Fleet Interface (good name, I'll ™ that) that showed only information like number of ships and systems this would make it easier to move large fleets around and you could also have an actual fleet commander who don't bother with mundane things like primaries. If this Large Fleet Interface™ was able to run on a tablet/phone the fleet commander would play the game as chess while the rest of us dies trying to shoot things.

Maybe this could be done similar to the DUST/EVE tie-in that is done with codes or magnets or something. I admit I have no idea how DUST works.

Edit: Everyone should still be able to use market, industry, hacking, and other things in the normal game client. This is just an addition to make out of game and in game blend together. Similar to how you can read EVE mail or talk to people in the in game voice chat channels from a normal web browser.

Yes, lets develop content that only a select portion of the playerbase will be able to use. Everyone around the world has a tablet or smart phone by now, so this is a good idea.

Whether or not "the masses" have access to this is, to a point, immaterial. It's in reference to a very niche audience that by definition has access to high speed internet access, pays at a minimum one month's subscription fee, and has a PC with hardware capable of running the client without too much difficulty (read: relatively current or older but powerful back in the day - both equate to "not poor").

In addition, multiple development studios/publishers are looking for ways of extending their game to multiple platforms, preferably mobile. This is going to happen sooner rather than later in the games industry. No reason for CCP to lag behind in that regard. And to that point, up until just recently they had committed resources to mobile development initiatives. Whether that is still the case or not I don't know.

All that said, OP is correct that many things have been asked for over the years related to mobile platform functionality. With regard to the OP's point about mobile offering a new place to house/experience the minigames of EVE (hacking, unreleased things, etc) so long as those same "remote" activities are available to other pilots in game through, perhaps, the CQ then it's would likely be fine since all players would have the option to participate.

However, I don't think something that has such a, potentially, pronounced effect on the live game should be the feature(s) they start with for mobile as it's risky. There are plenty of other good ideas scattered through various posts related to ideas about extending the EVE Universe to mobile.

Didn't say you were not supposed to be able to do it the normal way with the normal hacking module, as it has been done thousands of times every day. This just open up another aspect of the game.

And you can get an android tablet or phone for less than $50, so even a poor guy like me can afford one.

"I'm rich give me advantages because of it"

That seems to be the modus operandi for literally every capitalist country ever, so why not EVE too.

CCP make it a CONDCORDable offense to attack a ship owned by a player with over a trillion ISK in his wallet regardless of low/nullsec, and if they still lose a ship its immediately refunded.

Oh and if they are ever at risk of falling below a trillion ISK, everyone in the game that doesnt have a trillion ISK is taxed until the trillion ISKer has at minimum 2 trillion ISK, to protect the economy.

I add this edit here too so everyone notice it.

Totally agree! Why there isn't a mobile application for basic in station functions in eve is beyond me. If I can do it while docked in a station there should be an app that lets me do it where ever I go.

When my buddies are in the bath, I prefer to have nothing to do with them.

But joking aside, it would be nice if you could do some things from a mobile device. Probably not flying a ship, but working with the market and station services, why not? I think an app to watch corp chat from your phone would be really useful, or at the very least a way you could allow trusted people to send you alerts to your phone.

When buddies are in the bath, for everyone's safety I prefer if they use low power machines P

Actually, Halldor Fannar had ideas for more mobile things through Amazon AppStream but I don't know how those plans went.

No, as a mattet of fact I can't afford $50 dollars for a phone or tablet, cause you can't get them for that price unless you're gullible enough to sign those stupid service contracts. My Galaxy S3, which I'm currently typing this out on, took me a year to save up for cause I have other things I need to spend money on, ie stuff for my kids, but since I own it outright I can take it to whichever service provider I want.

Regardless of whether or not someone can afford a smart phone or tablet, adding any content accessibility from outside actually being logged in via mobile apps is inherently broken. The ability to view market activity and see the status of your buy/sell orders through an app is something I'd support, though being able to effect those orders is unbalancing as the margin traders are currently limited to when they can trade based on their ability to log into the server. There are already a few apps to track industry, though making changes should again stay out otherwise there will never be any free build slots in empire.

Hacking from outside the game, however, is a straight hell no. Hacking a data/relic site requires your hacking toon to be present in the site, an impossibility until CCP develops a mobile version of the client, which I would support.

Might as well ask for the ability to talk in local from your phone. The scammers in Jita and other trade hubs will kiss your feet if you get that for them.

tl;dr I already spend too much money and time on EVE, why should I have to spend more to remain competitive? Also, keep EVE in game activities in game.

It should never take more than one device to play one game.

There are already several programs that will let trusted people send alerts to your phone. The one I've used before is called Line. Ask your leadership which one they use.
